Monthly expenditure on last mile internet
43.11 US$ (35.98 €) with no data cap but only DSL line (no option included, but basic TV pack is 1.99 € more)
Ping 42ms, Down 5.73 Mbps, Up 0.81 Mbps (from speedtest.net a few minutes ago, and correspond to steam download speeds for example)
No fiber yet, downloading my entire games libraries (steam, gog, epic, origin, and more !) would be a matter of weeks, not only days.

What do you mean with "should" ? It looks like a better than average ping for an ADSL line in my country (France, averaging at 60ms), but I only found one single site with than information !
I'm not doing the test wrong, I did it two more times (one letting it select the server automatically, and it was another one than the previous, and one selecting a third server myself), and got 41ms and 47ms... when I play games showing ping on screen, I'm used to see similar numbers, around 45ms, sometimes a little more, rarely much more...
The fun fact is you asked about "last mile fixed line", but we also have 4G+ available here. I did a test with my smartphone plugged in USB and sharing its connection, and got ping 39ms, down 114.78, up 5.60. Ping is not really better, but download is 20 times better ! Only problem here is I have a data cap of 150GB/month, but it's even cheaper : 23.95 US$ (19.99 €).
And the very sad fact is that a regional fiber network, paid with citizen taxes, is only a few meters from here (really less than 10m), but all 4 ISPs here says "no fiber for you" (even one weirdo says no fixed line phone at all)... because it's not theirs, and they'd have to connect to it (I don't know the details exactly, but it looks like a commercial matter, not a technical one). They can do that on request, but then there's a mapping problem, the same that makes delivery people going to nowhere when I order something online, because that's what their GPS told them... I mean, some of my neighbors do have FTTH, but some others and myself can't... because we were not "mapped" correctly years ago (decades in fact), and nobody seems able to correct the mistake now it has spread across all mapping systems. And I have more important problems in my life than that, thus I won't try to solve such ill-minded issues. (I'm pretty sure it would be easier to ask one of my neighbor for its wifi password)

It's around $50 for up to 200Mbps down and 10Mbps up and there's no data cap. It includes modem, router and unlimited support and service calls to my house if needed. Any issues with the modem and or router I can swap them out for no charge. For $30 more I get phone service as well.

~$9 for 200/200 Mbps + TV for my dad (no cap). Can't complain about internet prices in Moscow.
Edit: oh. Apparently I need to contact my provider. I can now get 500 Mbps for $7. So awesome.

10/10 mbps, no cap, about 40 bucks, Indonesia (Bali).
Been with the same ISP for years so there might be better out there.
Edit: Out of curiosity, I checked and seems I can get faster for cheaper with the same provider, so will check this out when the office opens :)
Edit 2: Hello op in case you read this, thanks. Changed my plan, paying about 30 bucks for 50/50 mbps with 1 ping when testing over cable. <3

I have a provider that services 2 houses over but won't service my house or the houses on either side of me. Being barely outside the service area sucks.

More than $40 for 3 mbps. The only other alternative would be satellite, but weather would be a problem and the tiny data amount allowed for a whole month with satellite would be not enough to even download one modern game. At least the 3 mbps has no data cap so there's no worry about going over any limit.

Currently paying ~

43Mbps on download and ~
41Mbps on upload.

Mbps. In Brazil, we have the "medium speed" and "instant speed". By law, they have to provide 80% of medium velocity and 40% of instant velocity. They have no obligations with their wifi hardware limitations though. This speed can only be reached with the proper hardware. Just for you to know, I'm currently getting ~
58Mbps on download and ~
26Mbps on upload.

I have two separate lines in the flat.
The current main one is 1000/200 Mbps residential plan with no data cap and costs around 9-10 USD. It is fast but can be unreliable sometimes.
The backup/wifi is a 200/20 Mbps commercial plan with a 600 GB/month data cap that costs over 22 USD. It has a 99.9% uptime guarantee and no bandwidth throttle but even that speed can be excruciating sometimes.

$120 CAD a month, 25Mbps (but I often get upwards 30Mbps), uncapped.
Think that's bad? I used to pay $100/m for 1-2Mbps.
Rural Canada, eh.

$50 a month for 15 mb/s download and 15 kb/s upload (no that's not a typo, it is kilobytes). For uploads the speed starts at about the same rate as download and progressively gets worse while uploading a file until at about 1mb total uploaded it bottoms out at 10-15 kb/s and stays there for the remainder. A 30mb file takes me about 30-40 minutes to upload.

For around 34 EUR I get this:

Here in France I pay monthly in the 40/50 USD range. No bandwidth limit, fiber connection in the 800-1000 Mb/s down and around a third (or more) of that up. With that also comes unlimited phone calls in my country, TV box...
Before the glorious DSL days, it was WAY more expensive, when I had to pay Internet access + hours of RTC calls to my phone provider... and 4 or 5 ko/s at most,

I pay around 7.5 usd/month for 30 mbps upsteam/downstream fiber connection in India. For 300 mbps it would be 25 usd/mo. Data caps at 3300 GB/month. I have never even crossed 500 GB of usage in a month.
Apparently in US it cost much more.
