So, Gearbox moved first Borderlands into Steamworks

And cus of that they added two features

First - you can obtain a Steam copy of Borderlands by using your retail Disc

Second - all keys bought from outside of Steam can be activated at Steam to add DLC

Anyway, I have two keys - one for Zombie Island, second for Knoxx Armory

I've checked both. While the Armory key doesnt work (invalid key), the Zombie key seems two work - Steam gives me info that I already have this product (tho it doesnt give the product name). And I have it because I bought Steam version of BL GOTY

Anyway, my question is - would it be safe to create a private giveaway for this Zombie DLC and give a link in in a forum topic with warning that this key doesnt have to work for 100% ?

Im asking cus well, I have it, Steam recognize it as vaild key and basically I dont have anyone to give that key for so I thought about making giveaway

It would be good if any SG staff can answer this :)

just curious: how does steam 'recognize it as valid key' ? the moment you check it, isn't it claimed and therefore not usable any more?

As I said in the topic - I already have Borderlands GOTY in my library cus I bought it on Steam

If you enter a key for a game that you already own, Steam wont redeem the key but instead pop a window with msg that you already own the game

my bad I'd misread that part, didn't notice the goty thing. if that's the message you get, the key is probably usable so you may create a ga.
though if I were in your position I'd ask support first if that's ok for you to create a ga with a key you have no reason to think invalid but obviously no way to check if works. you may then write that it's approved by support in the ga description
good luck and thank you for the heads up: I didn't know I could use my retail copy of borderlands to activate on steam :)

Does this only work for PC copies of Borderlands 1?
Because I have a disc for the 360 GOTY edition lying around somewhere...

Yea, AFAIK it only works for PC version, pretty much no reason for it to work for Xbox one :P

So does that mean that the Mac version is not supported? That's a shame...

I dont really know. Mac titles are on Steam while Xbox has nothing to do with PC and Steam

But this thing that send extra DLC is false? Because my friend has all the DLC and did not receive anything extra.

Um..what ?

If you have a DLC key for first Borderlands then just try activating it on Steam

Ofc we are talking about non-Steam keys...
