What is wrong with Gone Home?

Why the low-low reviews on Steam and (user) metacritic? The game seems interesting but I'm put off by the overhelming negative reviews.

I absolutely LOVE games like Dear Esther or the Path. Also just FYI I like walking! Both in real life and in virtual worlds. (whoah)

Only problem with it is that it is not a game, as it doesn't have any challenges.

It's great experience, but do you consider going to museum a game?
