Prebuilt, I'm sure it's prone to having problems. Sure it's a great rig just be sure there's enough air flow and what not. I can imagine Gateway throwing in two fans and calling it fair. lol

You should build since you can truly customize your computer and save a ton of money since pre-built gaming computer tend to be on the more expensive side of the scale.
If you do build then go for the i5-2500 and then use the money you save getting the 560ti 448 core. IIRC the 448 core is only slightly more expensive then the regular 560ti but the performance upage is well worth it. Oh yeah, the RAM is an overkill like touche said.

No but you could be using the money for something else but then again RAM is one of the more cheaper part.

Wait for the ivy bridge processors.i5 2570k would be better for you cost/price wise since it's for gaming.
use the excess money on 680 instead(lol i know)
get an SSD for your OS. it's worth every penny.
you still need a casing/motherboard/psu
too much ram. 8 is enough for gaming.

560ti can run it on high. it's what i'm getting atm.

I had the 560ti and it could run all my game at max fps on high but I didn't play any games like BF3 graphic teir.

Already have 4TB of HDD but thinking of getting SSD. People been praising the SSD, what makes it much better?

It's pretty easy once you learn how to build a computer. It's like building a lego set except much easier since each part is different from each other. Newegg's youtube channel has a tutorial but if you don't want to watch that you can read articles online on how to do it and we have some really good gaming computer enthusiasts who can help you choose the parts if you're unsure. but it's okay if you don't want too, don't want to sound like some sort of elitist.

Alternatively if you're still afraid you can find a local PC shop and they'll probably do it for like $20.

For $1400 you could build one with a gtx680 and have the rest the same while still being cheaper. Right off the bat I don't agree with

Gaming? No. Not at all. Hyper threading isn't utilized by games.. rather 99% of games don't use it. Stick to i5 2500[k] k if you plan on ever overclocking. For a few dollars more might as well. Maybe in the future you'll want to.
Building a PC isn't hard. It really isn't. It's like legos. A part can go in only one way.

Overpriced and spec'd completely wrong, but that's what you get for a prebuild. It's alright as long as you don't mind just throwing several hundred $$$ away, though who knows what kind of crappy job they'll do on the thermal paste. That better not be a stock cooler either or they're very greedy bastards wanting to screw you over.

That's because people that buy computers like these that provide no details (exact hardware models for all parts and their specifications) aren't computer literate enough to know about them. Even Alienware has the paste problem I've heard, but it's possible to call their support to fix it at least. Gateway, which is owned by Acer if I recall correctly, aren't as concerned with these things.

A stock cooler and an aftermarket cooler means the difference between gaming at 35-50c to gaming at 90c+. It doesn't matter if you plan on OC or not, with a cheap stock you're not going to be able to do anything intensive with your high end processor without it overheating.

Don't buy prebuilt. Wasting money and the power supply it comes with will be BARE minimum. Order from Newegg or NCIX since you're in Canada.
i5-2500k (You won't use hyperthreading in games at all. K is the unlocked version if you want to overclock, otherwise just go with i5-2500)
Asrock Extreme 3 Gen 3 Z68 Motherboard
1TB Hard drive (WD Black, Spinpoint F3)
8GB RAM cheapest available rated 1333 or 1600Mhz
550w PSU rated 80% Bronze or better (Antec Neo Eco, SeaSonic, or similar)
Graphic card, I would go with a 7850 if you want slightly better performance than the 560Ti. Uses less power and less heat naturally. 7870 is a decent buy as well. Otherwise 560Ti, 570, 6950, 6970 are still decent.
If you were really going to spend $1400 I'd suggest going with a SSD for your operating system and games. You can load things very fast off of them, just follow some basic guidelines to keep the lifetime of it up. I would suggest a Crucial M4 120GB.
You have a lot of possibilities on a case. Corsair 400R, HAF 912, Lian Li and more.
And you don't even need optical drives anymore. You can boot from a USB stick using a tool from Microsoft to convert and format a Windows ISO to a USB stick.

Good as in it will run it, but still overpriced in all areas.
Overclocking is changing the settings in BIOS so the processor runs at a faster than advertised speed. The 2500k runs at 3.3Ghz, but you can overclock it to 4.4Ghz very easily. The only problem is the extra heat it generates. You would need a new heatsink since the stock one wouldn't be able to handle it. Some people aren't comfortable messing with the BIOS settings or attaching a new heatsink since it means you need to apply thermal paste and get good coverage with it without letting it spill out everywhere. This is where the i5-2500 comes in and it is slightly cheaper.
