Perhaps the cat had previous owners in the house you moved into at the time?

I don't own any pets...but if I did, it would be a dog.

Tigger (left) and Velvet (right).
1 2 3 Tigger is my 14-year-old bobtail. I've had him since he was born in May 1999 (his mother was a calico that belonged to my sister)
1 2 3 And Velvet is my 11-year-old bombay. I got her in September 2002.
1 2 I also have a blue Pomeranian named Zoe that used to belong to my parents up until last year. I believe she is 9 years old. My mom liked to shave the dog though... 3

We all love animals, right?
My ferrets!
My cat!
We've (my wife and I) only had the cat for a few months now. Back in April we moved to a new town, and the house we moved into had the above cat hanging around. We figured he was just a neighborhood cat looking for pets and food, so we thought nothing of it. Over the next few days, he would spend hours at a time sitting at our front door meowing. Finally after three days of him doing this, we let him in the house, and he stuck around. We actually moved again recently, took him with us, and successfully converted this lovable stray into an indoor cat.
