Sooo i got my first ever xbox controller for my pc today and it feels weird in 3rd person shooters and stuff so i just wanted to ask how hard is it to get used to it and if you think a gamepad is better than mouse+keyboard.

Leave your gamepad experiences in this thread ._.

They're both better at different types of games.

This.

I played fps games for too long with mouse and keyboard and its too hard to get used to play with controller.
Haven't played fps with controller since PlayStation's Medal Of Honor:Underground, like 10 years ago.

Depends of what game you're playing.

Haven't used an Xbox 360 controller on PC games for a while, it's really good. My wired one died out on me a while ago but I used it a lot for GTA IV and other games on the PC that played better with controllers. Still have a Madcatz wired controller but I only use it when the RT isn't required as it's broken.

Don't use it if it feels wrong, use it if it feels right, except on FPS, never use a controller in FPS you would be gimping yourself.
On the other hand, Platformers and 3D adventure games are way better with a controller.

Racing, hack 'n slash - perfect, TPS - okay (just gotta get used to it), FPS - pretty bad IMO, especially if the game doesn't support aim assist.

Own a X360 controller for over a year now.

I've tried many FPS's with it and I didn't liked it a bit, haven't tried DI though.

3rd person games, platform games, racing games, and sometimes 1st person as well, but only in single player mode. I enjoyed Bioshock 1&2 big time with my 360 controller.

Dark Souls is better with a controller.

For me a controller is awesome for racing games and hack 'n slash but for first person shooters, or 3rd person games that require more precise aiming, personally I have never gotten used to the aiming on a controller.

It usually takes some time to get used to. I found it especially tricky when switching from a game I'm used to play with M+K to a controller. For me, FPS should be played with M+K, third person depends on the control scheme, sometimes a controller might make it easier (if it was made with a controller in mind, this is usually the case). Football or driving games are great with controllers, as are platformers.

The PC game I used a controller with was probably Deathspank.

Why would you want to get used to it? No. Keyboard+Mouse is and will always be best.

Controller is more comfortable imo, but it all comes down to personal preferences!

There are very few games I won't play without a gamepad. Not only have I been using them for more than 20 years, but got some problems with the joints in my left hand, and a gamepad means less actions mapped to that hand. About the only real negatives it has in gaming compared to a keyboard and mouse are

  • Accuracy with analog stick aiming isn't pixel perfect (though most games I can use it just fine, I can't think of any that really need that level of accuracy even with headshots).
  • Less keys to access (which also is rarely a problem, not many games require more than what a decent gamepad can offer).
