Steam will say a failed/Duplicate code for a game that was tried previously, but really you get the game that the current activation code if for. It is some sort of activation glitch. If you look in your steam library and sort games by recent you see what game you really got

But that wasn't what I was talking about. I redeemed the key and it said it was Spheroid, but I got JTTCOTE instead. Nowhere in my library says Spheroid, just JTTCOTE and the games I previously bought with my own money.

Actually I have that problem too sometimes. For example some days ago I reedemed a key on a key drop on Steam and on activation said it was The walking dead, when I checked my library the game it was Moonlight.

Exactly. You previously tried a code for Spheroid, but it was a duplicate code. Then you successfully activated a key for Journey to the Center of the Earth, but steam incorrectly show the name of Spheroid for the activated game. You got JTTCOTE. Spheroid was Duplicate. Steam activation game title glitch.

If you already own a game in your library it will ask you to install it if it's not already. That is how I knew those three games.
