It does a very good job at making you paranoid and creating tension, so I understand why many people avoid playing it. I was skeptical before trying it, because I never found a game to truly scare me. "Amnesia" doesn't do that either, but it does succeed in keeping me tense and alert and in making me more paranoid. I remain more terrified of my imagination and reality, though.

"Slender" didn't really do anything for me, but it's mainly because the whole concept of walking alone in a forest at night doesn't seem particularly frightening to me. I typically get bored watching horror films, the one notable exception being "The Blair Witch Project". "Paranormal Activity" falls somewhere behind, I like the way both are filmed. Only the first parts in each series, though, they get really bad afterwards.

I would never walk alone in a forest at night... Just freaks me out. But I'm not sure why Slender makes me paranoid. Maybe I just need to watch a few more people on Youtube playing it... I've only watched a few horror movies (of course, too tired to actually think of any names... :/ ), but still enough to know that I don't like them. :p

I regularly walk through forests when solo hiking, but the scariest experience was when I was actually with two other people (who lacked experience). It was around 23 (11pm) walking down a river valley between two mountains, accompanied by a sheep dog that had just started following us at the last cabin, and some animal caught our trail. I realised that because the wind was blowing from behind and the dog started crying, which they only do when they smell wolves or bears following their master/human companion. The other two didn't know what was up, but I kept telling them to just move and whatever it was abandoned pursuit after about 20 minutes. Then we ran into a bear as we approached the forest (we were descending from 2500m to about 1500m elevation), but it pretty much ignored us. We reached base about an hour after midnight. It was fun, but I wouldn't do it again with other inexperienced people any time soon.
I don't normally watch horror films either because they lack plots, thus being boring. I only do when several people recommend them.
