We're well into October now, and Halloween, whether or not you observe it, is approaching. October is a month focusing on all things Autumn like pumpkins, special hot beverages, and the general beauty of nature moving aside to let old man winter pass. It's also frequently associated with spooky things such as monsters, witches, and skeletons (noot!).

Some of you may remember years ago when I did the yearly spookifying thread in which SG forum users could request their profile picture to be "spookified" - In other words, edited to look spooky, scary, and (mostly!) gory. These threads were created in 2015, 2016, 2017... but then it became too much work and I skipped over 2018. This year, I've had two people ask me if I would do it again, and it sparked something within me and convinced me to give it a round this year.

What is spookifying?

Spookifying is the art of taking someone's profile picture, and turning it into a spooky horror show. There's no better way to put it.

To request a spookification of your profile picture, simply comment on this thread asking for it. If you are the chosen one™ you will momentarily receive a reply with an attached image - This is your spookification! Simply download the image, set it as your profile picture, and enjoy being extra spooky for the rest of October.

Now, with that said, you should know that expecting for a single guy to spookify every single request is asking a bit much. As spookifying is very challenging and time consuming, I will only be picking the best images first, then gradually work my way down to less desirable images to work with, as I run out of candidates for spookifying. This means that it doesn't matter too much in which order you've requested your spookification, since I'll pass you if your profile picture isn't easy to work with.

To give you a general idea of what profile pictures get the priority, here is a quick list.

Best:

• Clean, clearly visible humanoid character(s)
• Other clean, clearly visible character(s)

Good:

• Misc artwork involving visible characters
• Human pictures
• Other pictures of living creatures, including animals

Bad:

• Logos
• Complex artworks without/with poorly visible character(s)
• Artworks/pictures without primary subject (preferably character(s))

Do keep in mind that this is just the general guidelines I use when doing these, so don't be afraid to request regardless of your profile picture!

So much text... enough already! Tell me how to participate!

1. I will be choosing user profile pictures to spookify at semi-random (if someone looks good to work with, I'll give it a try).
2. This is not first come first serve - I may or may not spookify you, although I'll try my best to do as many as I can.
3. Since this is a lot of effort and time on my part, I may not be always here. Sometimes I'll drop by to spookify a few profiles, but I'm not making any promises to anyone.
4. You do not need to provide a high quality image; I'll work with your profile picture directly. However, I may also occasionally accept special requests.
5. If you are very concerned about getting a specific thing in your spookification (example, you can't stand blood), you may do a special request for me to exclude/include an element, and I'll try to fulfill this requirement. Do keep in mind that this is a creative process though, and typically I don't follow specific instructions and just go with the flow of my creativity to spookify images, so I can't guarantee anything, and also suggest refraining from such requests unless you really want/don't want something specific.

And that's pretty much it! Begin spamming jbond with volunteer work! :D
