These are used for trading. They can be obtained with around $1.5 to $2.5 and are valued at around $2 when trading. At least that's what I've gathered.

1 TF2 key - about 1.85$ (constantly changing)
1 TF2 key - 5.44-6.66 ref
1 ref - 0.33-0.35$
1 earbud - 23 keys
(according to bp.tf right now)

good times , today its just sad how people accept this shit . people should stop buying keys for ref and the price will probably drop in a few months , and the prices for ref finally will go up a bit

keys where 1.30-1.50 then 1ref=50cent so 3ref = 1.50 now keys are $2-2.50 or 5ref=2.50
i don't see the problem. unless you want the sellers with stolen cc buying more keys and selling them for $1. p.s. valve loses all money from those keys and in fact have to pay the cc companies cause of the chargebacks.

On steam market they cost more because of fees.
When trading the value you take is the one without the fees?
For example if i want to trade a game (7.50) dollars for keys, a fair price would be 4 or 5 keys?

if you are trading something of $7.75, the best price would be 4 keys ($1.87 each key). 5 keys would be $1.5 each key, which is a bit low

you want the regular manco crate key if you are going to trade with keys.
Also if you buy keys get them cheap, but its usually best to trade for them and save them for when you want a game.
Games usually go for their last sale price in keys rounded up ( a game is $9.99 and goes on sale for $3.50 - then its worth about 2 keys, sometimes 3 if its a new game or never goes on sale)
dont pay more keys then you have to - ie: everyone wants to sell mark of the ninja for 3 keys, everyone wants to buy it for 1 key, 2 keys is a fair price. Just shop around if you deal in keys.

Why is everyone trading for keys? Today I got Half-Life Complete for 3 keys (Well they were not tf2 keys, they were dota 2 treasure keys, but the trader didn't care much if they were dota 2 ot tf2) I got them for like 5€ but the half life pack is 7€. Not a big difference but still, I thought everyone was looking for profit when trading :/

Long story short: Wanna profit? Get used to keys as the currency.

I hope i can ask about this here, if not let me know.
So i have recently started checking Steamtrades.com and i see many users use TF2 keys as a currency, but when i look for TF2 keys on steam market there a lot of different types of them with different prices.
Can someone help understand how this works?
Thank you for your time!
