There's also this method...

But I personally would never use Win 10 to begin with

First of all, best wishes to your friend.
Second, if you are in the US, Windows 10 Education isn't that difficult to legally obtain for $0-$10 if you're a student. And it's better than Home/Pro anyway.
Few other points:
-This power supply is a bit cheaper and better: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1360176-REG/evga_100_bt_0450_k1_450bt_450w_80_plus.html
-You can possibly save a few bucks on the case as well. Newegg, in particular has cases under $20 after rebate that aren't really any worse than that one. I got one for free after rebate once.
-The G4400 does not have hyperthreading, and some games become problematic if they detect fewer than four threads. If you save on the power supply and case, you should be able to upgrade to a G4560, which has hyperthreading It won't bottleneck a 1050Ti, (it's actually good enough for up to a 1080) and the two extra threads definitely help.
-Windows 10 is kind of annoying without an SSD, and you can get one for like $50 if you've got room in the budget.
Edit: Sorry, didn't see that your power supply had a rebate as well. So the one I linked to is only a few dollars cheaper, but it's still better. And with regards to the SSD, you don't have to get one, but they're worth it if they're in budget.
Edit 2: Also, if you have a Micro Center nearby (again, if you're in the US), a G4560 is $57: http://www.microcenter.com/product/477030/g4560_350ghz_kaby_lake. Otherwise, you can get it from B&H for $79. I'm bringing this up because PCPartPicker lists it as $99, and it's not the best at finding good deals.

Maybe not very helpful for your case but check this video out https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eHVO-eSV1FY
The channel has a lot of tips to run games on weak computers and laptops and the tips even work for stronger gaming PCs https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I14HQ2LnoQI

case exceptions; can you not repurpose the case that he already has to save $30?

Try to get the G4560, the hyperthreading is a massive boost. However, you may need to update the BIOS on that H110 motherboard, for which you'll need an older CPU. Other than that everything else seems okay.
And as it is already said, pirate the damn Windows. I know it's not a popular thing to say in these forums but taking into account the tiny budget, it would be the way to go for me.

i was wondering since i bought a win 10 key for 5 bucks from a chinese guy just last week. but i seem to recall that selling off oem keys is not considered legal in most places.
after a little research it seems to me that a used gtx 770 is about half the price of and even faster than a new gtx 1050.

im going to waste 920€ on
average motherboard for around 70-100€
8gb ram
1050 ti
700 w
i5 7400
(normal case of 30€)
120€ monitor
mouse + qwerty
and one cooler,
1tb hdd and+ 250 ssd
plus the montage, all of this goes to 920€
what im doing bad? need help because im buying it in 2 days.
Do i really need all of this for playing or i can get something extremelly more cheaper?

Thanks for all of the replies everyone!
I want to reiterate, I already have a copy of Windows 10 so no need to pirate or purchase it anybody.
@carefree the RAM in the old comp is DDR3 so it is not compatible, good suggestion though.
@euroboardsgames repurposing the old case is a great idea that I had not considered. I think I will order all of the parts, including a new case, but clean up the old case while I am at it. Then assemble everything in the old case and see how it looks and if I like it just return the new one. Thanks for the that!
@Azone you're really putting me to shame here, haha. An obvious better PSU, me not realizing that the 4400 did not have hyperthreading, cheaper prices, you've got it all. Thank you so much.
So everyone thinks the 4560 will be a sufficient processor for the next couple of years? Obviously we aren't talking max settings or even medium, but playable at steady frames.

G4560 should be just fine for a couple years, but we can never be sure. There are multithreaded games coming that might tax it, but I can't see them not being playable. It's a better option than the i3 (about the only benefit of an i3 is AVX, and that's unnecessary for gaming) and the i5 is considerably more expensive. And considering it's a good enough chip for even a GTX 1080, I imagine the 1050Ti would show its age before the Pentium.
And you're welcome, best of luck! :)

Greetings and thank you in advance for reading!
I have a friend who would like me to build a gaming PC for her son. He is having some anxiety struggles after months of fear that he may permanently lose his mom to cancer.
She has recently undergone surgery to get those cancerous growths removed from her abdomen which was successful, but the medical costs have left her with a strict $300 budget.
She has an old HP that I can repurpose the hard drive, monitor, mouse, and keyboard from, and I am considering upping her budget a bit from my own personal funds if I can. I also have Windows 10 covered.
The tentative build: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/zt74cc
PSU: EVGA - 400W ATX Power Supply https://pcpartpicker.com/mr/outletpc/86M323 $28
MOBO: Gigabyte - GA-H110M-A Micro ATX LGA1151 Motherboard https://pcpartpicker.com/mr/newegg/hMvZxr $37
CPU: Intel - Pentium G4400 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor https://pcpartpicker.com/mr/outletpc/YV7CmG $50
RAM: Crucial - Ballistix Sport LT 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2400 https://pcpartpicker.com/mr/amazon/4CyxFT $68
GPU: Zotac - GeForce GTX 1050Ti 4GB Mini Video Card https://pcpartpicker.com/mr/superbiiz/G3H48d $113
Case: Rosewill - FBM-05 MicroATX Mini Tower Case https://pcpartpicker.com/mr/amazon/nykwrH $29
HDD: Hitachi 7200 RPM 500GB taken from previous PC.
OS: Windows 10 Home $90, I will try to get a student discount on this through a friend.
Total: ~$350
So I am thinking of picking a better processor such as a 4560 or an i3 because he wants to play upcoming games like Battlefront 2 and Anthem, but requirements on those have not been published yet and that would be coming out of my personal funds which I do not have an excess of. Trying to gift him more power while still being able to pay rent.
Also I should mention that he does not like AMD parts based on a PC someone built him years ago apparently.
Now that I have finished writing this and double checked the "rough draft" I realize I should change that PSU because it isn't even Bronze rated.
And finally a thank you giveaway,
