I want to gift an FTL key which I have saved in a text file, but I can't for the life of me remember if I gave it to someone, (although I'm 99%sure that I didn't) and I don't want to create a giveaway and then scr*w the winner.

Any way to check?

Yeah, ok I won't. Btw, is there some punishment for creating giveaways with keys that turnout not to be valid?

Fake giveaway 5 days, misleading giveaways 3 days. 2 weeks or 1 month... where do you live, man? Even trading wins only gets one 5 days suspension

Oh, and does the "gift" option on the create giveaway page refer to a steam gift only or can I use it for humble bundle gifts?

That's for Steam gifts. If you paste a gift link in as a "key" it will automatically be detected.

no there is no way you can check if it's already activated,
If you already have the game and used an unused steam key...it will only say that you already have that game on your account.

I didn't use the key on my account, and don't have the game

I recommend simply using the key yourself since you don't have the game anyway or simply give the key to a person on your friends list that might be looking for FTL. Simply check on the game tab and see who has it on their wishlist. If it turns out to be used then at least you will not be flagged down here...I think that's the best solution without risks.

If I remember, I think you can ask steam support to look into if a key is valid or not.

Hm, I think I heard they don't look kindly on the whole giving away keys thing, unless it's through steam gifts to a friend, so I doubt they'd be willing to help.

I don't know if it's possible at all, if it is then you would have to wait prolly 2 months for an answer sadly :( They said they will focus more on their Steam Support in the nearly future, i really i hope they'll empolye one or more ppl there. :D

its currently on sale. if you have spare money, you could just buy it from steam, if key isn't working... i guess, its only way, if you don't want to give it away on forum in some way...

Lol, I'm not giving money for game I don't even like :D.
Maybe giving it away on forums is the only way.

You could also get a replacement key on Tremor if the key turns out to be used, assuming they have it. I've done that when I've had issues with keys working correctly.

If the key is used then I gave it to someone, so...

Right, I mean a second key...tremorgames.com doesn't cost you real money, just some time earning coins. But, they have to have the game, and it depends on the game how many coins that would take. Anyways, just an idea.
