Do you play or have you played it? I was very much enjoying it for the most part. The end game however seems very very grind heavy with little to almost no reward. For example learning the legendary mods is nearly impossible. There are only a few worth using, less than 10, but there are dozens of them. You have to randomly get the mod on some junk piece which is uncommon to start but then you have to break that item down and you have about a 1% chance to get the mod and a separate 1% to learn how to make it. There is no way to change the odds, it will always be around 1% and you may never learn the ones you want to use.
So you should just buy them from other players right? Wrong. Don't be misled, there are quite a few players out there who have what you are looking for but they don't want you to have it because??? I guess they only want themselves and their buddies to have them. I actually found 2 vendors with what I wanted but they were hidden and behind locked doors, which flags you for stealing when you unlock them. Any way when you buy something from a vendor it alerts the player and these guys removed their camp when they figured out I had found how to reach their vendor. I was able to get 3 random and mostly mediocre pieces with, arguably, the best mod on them however. If you are wondering the mod is called overeaters which gives a flat 6% reduction in damage if you are well fed and hydrated. If you were able to get 5 pieces, after hidden math, you get around 28% total reduced damaged before any other reductions. Sadly people only seem to sell such mods for real world money but possibly even sadder people actually pay for them.
At any rate I have pretty much made my character into some kind of unkillable demigod due to a few very overpowered mechanics. Those mods are on power armor which also has innate flat damage reduction so I don't really take much damage. I use two perks that synergize really well to make radiation not a problem call Ghoulish and What rads? These also help heal damage when there is radiation. I use some really awesome flame-thrower called Holy Fire that does a lot of damage quickly and heals me for 2% of that damage. I put a Napalm tank on it which almost doubled the damage. Only drawback is you have to be fairly close to your target.
I might finish up the rest of the quests and move on. Not real big on gambling.

Enjoyed it very much*! Played it like a singleplayer Fallout (not much into multiplayer), done all main quests and lots of side quests (probably missed some but dunno), and quit after getting all achievements. But they added new quests and new achievements so no 100% for me anymore, maybe I will play it again in the future for completion's sake!

*Edit - damn, that was 4.5 years ago already. :D

Yea, it's pretty fun. Kind of toned down a bit from the regular games even though there is a fair bit of cussing so that's weird to cut back in some ways but not others.

it was fun to play for 100 hours but now when I want to go back to playing after a while I don't feel like playing anymore I had more fun in 4 but that's probably because I played alone in 76

Yea, Fallout seems better alone doesn't it? I still have things to do in 4 and I have something like 300 hours on it

Yeah, I've been playing it for a while now and am enjoying it quite a lot. Granted I've been playing it more like a post-apocalyptic cosy game - trying to build a cool camp, unlocking plans and trying to unlock cool stuff from the seasonal scoreboards. I've been holding off from playing too much story because we originally planned to play it with 2 buddies but lately I've been playing story a little bit and doing some fun side quests.

It's surprising you were having such a different experience with the community when it comes to trading and legendary mods and stuff like that. I'm playing on Playstation and I must say the game has one of the most friendly and welcoming communities I've ever seen.

Specially when I was low level people would unpromptedly drop stacks of Stimpacks, RadAway and other stuff every other time I played. When I was ~ lvl 25 somebody emoted me after an event and took me to their camp and crafted me 3* Legendary Assault Rifle, a silenced automatic pistol and a flaming chainsaw.

Only recently through a funny coincidence I befriended a high level player who when we first met dropped me boxed legendary mods for the ULTIMATE Tesla rifle and a few days later gave my Ultracite power armor a tune-up for extra carry weight and some good legendary mods.

On the contrary I had the impression because it's a somewhat smaller community (compared to stuff like Fortnite or GTA Online) but has so many hardcore players with levels like 1500 and often even 3000 most of the rare and valuable stuff like god tier legendaries doesn't hold much value to them anymore and they take great joy passing on the love to noobies 😅

What adds to that impression is I've been browsing Reddit a bit to learn more about some of the more complicated aspects and whenever I see somebody asking for rare legendary mods there are always several people asking on which platform they are playing and offering to give them the boxed mods for free.

I don't have an Reddit account and for now I've been getting along fine but from what I've heard on YouTube using Reddit is almost mandatory for getting some of the harder to obtain stuff in FO76.
Because as you said you can break down hundreds of legendaries hoping to get the legendary effects you're looking for or just ask on Reddit and somebody will most likely help you out 😄

By the way are you preparing for the new Gleaming Depths Raids or why were you looking for Overeater PA?

I live in America, the Americas seem to be notorious for shitty communities. I've tried playing in seriously off hours for the Americas, 2am-8am and it's a whole different world. A lot less douchers afking at events and spamming mini nukes and the donation box after fasnacht.
I've seen 10 people idle while 3 do the event during America prime time. What kind of shit is that? I just spam the donation box full of junk items they can have it lol
I got so tired of how clunky power armor is, I just spent a small fortune to get 4 random pieces of overeater normal armor from the purveyor. I'll probably try gleaming depths soon. I had to mostly solo the SBQ because I was on a dead server. Some people did eventually show up.
I put a pyromaniac mod on my Holy Fire, it's even more kick ass now,

Generally I hardly ever notice people idling events during my usual playtimes.

But this is my first time participating in Fastnacht (I think I was around last time it happened but not in the mood to play - probably dailies / weeklies only mode) and I can already see why it would be a problem.

First time I did the event was quite fun. Almost the whole server came together - I think it must have been ~ 20 people. And while there were two people standing in underwear where the event ends (I didn't realize they were idling at that time) there were at least 15 people participating, many of them in Fastnacht masks, emoting and shooting into the air like crazy 😅

Second time was odd... While I teleported to Helvetia immediately 10 seconds after I got the Event prompt, I could barely see the last of the preperation steps get finished when I arrived. So people must have been stocking up on intestines, beeswax and all the other preperation stuff...

The third time I did it on day 2 or 3 you could already tell there were more idlers.... We would still have easily passed the event but due to some bug the robots got stuck and you could tell a lot of the motivation was gone.

Let's face it (while there is a lot of nostalgie because apparently Fastnacht was the very first event) it's a somewhat boring and very easy one - taking ~ 3x as much time time as Meatweek and taking away event spots from actually fun events like Moonshine Jamboree, Eviction notice & Radiation Rumble BUT people are bellbent to get those shiny glowing masks so they'll play it as often as they can regardless it kind of sucks 😆 so there's bound to be some idlers. As long as the event easily passes I don't mind some idlers but given the event lasts 14 days people are gonna get lazier and lazier the longer it goes on 🙄

I got the rare Brahmin mask pretty early on, which is kind of cute so I don't particularly care about the other masks.
I'd like to get the Butterchurner for Camp resources, but if I don't get it so be it.

I have to say I'm actually kind of relieved 😅 The website nukaknights (who generally have good info) claimed you get a guaranteed 3* Legendary from the "secret selection” of the legendary dealer" a.k.a. Gold Bullion plan or items from Minerva....

😲😲😲

but that doesn't appear to be true (luckily) 😅 (Crusader Pistols, Plasma Cutters, Hellfire Rocket Launchers, War Glaives, Fixers, Gauss Minigun, Secret Service Armor, Brotherhood Recon Armor, etc.)

IF it had been true I'd probably farmed the event 5 - 8 times a day (and would have probably hated myself for it 😅).

Now I just log on for my dailies at X:50, do my dailies and if I take close to an hour I might do another round of Fastnacht.

I checked my stash today and found I have 2 boxed Overeater mods. Reddit claims those go for anywhere between 5 and 20 thousand caps... What would you say should I reasonably charge for them if I put them into my vendor?

I've been running low on caps lately because I've been preemptively buying some Excavator power armor mods from the Whitesprings and comic books from Maul? 😄

People will pay 10,000 for them, I do. It's not greedy nor generous, I feel it's about the right spot for that mod.

I haven't played it yet and I have been refraining from buying it because I thought it would go f2p. Definitely will get it when I decrease the backlog

It is free to play. And if you have gamepass which is also free, if you do tasks, you don't have to pay $5 or whatever it is when its on sale. But there's no monthly fee or anything and all the updates are there, no expansion buying. It's fairly decent.

Well... actually it's Pay to play. What you mean is it doesn't require a monthly subscription like Final Fantasy 14 or World of Warcraft.

There is Fallout 1st but when it comes to Season passes Fallout 76 is rather generous with only every 5th reward requiring a premium season pass. It' will be some of the best rewards but still no comparision to games like Suicide Squad: Kill the Justice League where 90% of the seasonal rewards require a paid season pass.

No it's free to play on certain platforms. I didn't mix anything up. Fallout 1st is not required to play the game nor are the rewards all that great. Almost all of them are cosmetic. There are a few things like the ammo box which is interesting but very niche, you shouldn't need more than 2 kinds of ammo and ammo weight can easily be reduced so you can carry all you want. I stick with only energy weapons so with batteries included I have thousands of rounds for even the most daunting challenge.
Also since Bethesda is owned by Microsoft their entire library is a permanent staple on Gamepass. You can play all of the Fallouts, Elder Scrolls and Starfield for free. And as I said Gamepass can also be obtained for free with some effort.

You still have to pay for gamepass, or am I missing here something? What "tasks" are you talking about?

I don't pay for anything I just use Microsoft Rewards. AFAIK it's available in most if not all countries. I redeem my points for Gamepass ultimate. Every game from the Bethesda catalogue is on there, even New Vegas. You also get points in the Xbox app on mobile/pc/console just for playing games.

If I start playing, and choose a "new" server, would I be able to visit all the landmarks you see in the trailers? Basically find everything untouched by other players? That is always my fear of playing an online game, having all the places already looted and the landscape changed because other people completed quests and cleared locations already.

I want to play it fresh, sort of like playing Fallout 4 for the first time and leaving the Vault and having everything there where it originally was set.

If I start playing, and choose a "new" server

That's not really an option. Generally the game assigns you a server - I assume one that is lacking players up to the 24 player limit (unless you have Fallout 1st)

If I remember correctly loot respawns every 30 minutes (or after 260 looted items if you've looted the same area yourself previously).

All the important / quest relevant items will always be there.

Basically: Everything that is in a box / any sort of container is instanced and will be there. Everything that lies in the open, like on a counter another player could have looted. But that's generic loot you can also find if you go 300m further.

Of course you could also opt for a private server if you splash for Fallout 1st but that's kind of expensive at 15€ a month (10€ if you buy a 1 year subscription).

It might be worth it for other reasons (wait till you get lvl 70 in the seasonal scoreboard - buy 1 month of fallout first and get all the premium rewards + 25% score boost for a whole 3 month season) but I personally wouldn't get it just to get a untouched world.
