My favourite moment was with Descent Freespace. At the end of one mission you encounter the bad guys flag ship but I wasn't expecting it so in the exit area I was waiting for my warp to trigger but instead the flag ship pops out and catches me by the way it's designed and ended up killing me.

It destroys the Capital ship you're protecting and you warp away to escape and the rest of the game you figure out how to destroy it before it destroys Earth.

I've just watched the 20 years of CD Project Red anniversary and all the 3 parts. I highly recommend checking them out if you want to know more about the team behind the game. I'll be honest, I've not played it yet, but I definitely will. I believe it's a super complex RPG from what the devs were talking about and I got more intrigued to try it.

It's truly a great exploration game. I've enjoyed it on PS4. I plan on revisiting it at some point on PC, but I'll be honest that I want Forbidden West as well there.

in astroneer game, long time ago when the game has lot of bugs (now fixed already),
a rover instead of stay in terrain is fly away, and because i create the rover like a sort of train with attached some fans, solar panels, materials storage etc. they fly awy with it,
i can't see the rover in the sky because it was so much far,but i can see it like a point draw
i don't know why but i mad so much about this hahaha then i promise to myself that i will not play any other games until i not try do all i can to take it back, maybe is possible, maybe is not.. but i must try...
Then for 1 month the only thing i do in this game is get terrain and build a sort of giant ramp that go up up to the sky direction of rover,
and i wrong many times too... because i was "stupid" to not calculate well how much far i must start to build the ramp, because every time i start buid it,it looks like can reach the rover, but after more time i go up,the ramp go "next\after" to the rover...
so everytime i must detroy it go far in the planet and restart build it,
then finally after around 30-40 days i was able to build\finish the ramp and to reach the rover,
but instead to build it perfect until touch the rover a leave a little space between ramp and rover,
then i run the ramp with another new little rover, jump the space between the ramp and trainrover, fly in sky,and hit the train rover with my new rover (like billard) in away that then the trainrover is hit push to go down because of gravity , and it has worked hahaha the train rover go down down , problemthen was for some strange reason the game don't show me where the rover is (in normal situation this can be seen by icons\compass but in this case it was not present) and i can't find where the rover is go,i has need play the game 2 days by explore planet north to south and east to west for find it by use some beacons as helper then finaly i find it,for some strange reason the parts of the train was not attached was separated, but i was able to grab then and plug it back all
also if this is not about storytelling or achievements and "not give" nothing as a "Result" i don't know why but for me was one of most awesome gaming experience,i have many others too in other games, but this was particular too.
another one was, before my dad passed away and my mom and me sick,i was youtuber gaming too so i try to make something for advertising my yt channel,so i grab the game claybook and also if i'm not a developer and had 0 aknoledge about build games etc. i was able to create a level where you get some objects (ufo etc.) reach\activate some places and clouds that do rain, then rain\water go inside tunnels and create the words ita360.com with physic, that was awesome too (you can see it in playlist ds art in my channel)
now i stop to do my channel because i hae many problem m life and must do hard work low salary, and btw it was not worth it too for me,but i continue use it as a personal tool for memories or wishlist games that cant be wishlisted on platforms or things like this

Happy belated cakeday, and here's my story:
It wasn't console, it wasn't PC, it wasn't anything but arcade. I was in an arcade and I was totally hooked on Tetris. Mind you, not the Atari one with the different levels (of which I have a bezel, framed with a mockup of the famous intro screen) , but the Sega one, continuously accelerating until reaching gravity 20, when pieces go directly to the bottom without passing by intermediate space.
I was also one of the best Tetris players in the arcade. Back then I thought the difficulty was ok; I've played many other Sega Tetris machines and it seems that one was in the most difficult setting, or close. Every other machine I played was dead easy. More on that later. For now, not many players were able to reach 200 or even 100 lines, and only a handful were able to reach around 400. Apparently there people lost concentration or something, while I was able to reach 500 to 800 several times.
It was a summer afternoon and I was playing quite relaxed. Some mistakes, easily fixed. Things were going well, and as usual, I was doing about 100 lines every six minutes, thus reaching 1000 should take a bit more than an hour. Why 1000 was a significant number? Well it was the entrance to the thousands, it was also one hour of playing, and it would decide a big doubt we had there: the line counter had only 3 digits or 4? Would it count to 1000 or reset to 0?
So as the hundreds kept coming, more people stood by my side or behind seeing me playing. I remember one of the arcade tuff guys at my left, one of those persons who gets in the game even when not playing, like "save that for a red" or "get the next L to the left side!" and I kept being cheered... Something that made me quite nervous.
Making a mistake can take a few pieces or two dozens to fix, depending on luck. The problem is not making another mistake while you try to solve your last one. Three accumulated/consecutive mistakes put you in danger, specially if you left the pieces to get higher. That's, for what I remember, what happened to me on the last hundred. I was nervous, people weren't helping, so before I fixed the very last mistake left on the screen, I ended making more mistakes. As the lines kept coming, and getting closer to 1000, things were real bad. I really don't remember well the last 10-15 lines, because I was trying to do two things at the same time: one was keeping an eye on the line counter, the other was desperately sending pieces to far left and far right and always on the edge of losing.
Yes I was really messing up the opportunity by looking outside of the field, and then well, I made 2 or 3 lines (don't remember) but couldn't fit the next pieces and I lost. I saw the counter and it said... 999 Lines.
I didn't notice people's roaring, I just turned back and sit on the floor, with my back against the machine and hands on head saying "I was so close, I was so close" when that tough guy shaked my shoulders and told me "no man, you did it, I saw the last lines and you made it to 1000! It's just the game got stuck on 999, but I swear you made that extra line!"
As I stood up again to watch the screen and the 999, more people at my sides told me the same, that I got to 1000, but the counter stopped after 999. Clappings and roar, my 15 minutes of fame.
Since then, it wasn't the same. I see now vids of people playing Arika's Tetris Master series and that's really great level. I was there in the beginnings, but not up to today's challenges. In fact, for a while everything looked too easy, I guess I didn't stay for Tetris' evolution. But there's just a bit more related to that story.
As I said, that machine was in a difficult setting. I've got to +1000 at least once more there. But I've got to +1000 in several other places with the same game, just in a more easy setting. I remember a pub in the same town, my friend played and I fixed his mistakes. Once reached gravity 20 he left the game to me. And well, it was too slow, so after drinks were gone and I reached 1000, we left the machine and headed to the door. Then my friend turned to me and said "I bet you can't go back and fix the game as it is now." I ran to the machine and started to make lines while a tall tower, one piece width, stood in the middle. After the first lines it was easy. Some girls watched like "damn that's a good player, I wish he was more handsome" lol
But it was boring. It was a fun challenge but actually too easy. I left the machine again saying aloud that anyone could continue if they want.
TLDR: I had my glory moment with Tetris.

Thank You! Much appreciated. Well, I mostly play CS:GO, ranks and item-drops are interesting to me, also that game needs alot of practice, to learn how to move, when, where and how to throw grenade... When to rush, when to go slow... It is amazing how it can activate your mind compared to other shooters... Also there are rumors about Source2 update in August... Would love to see that ๐ Anyways, thank you for your time and for Whitelist! Have a great day/night! ๐

So you got a necro and I just watched this. Congrats on the 1 year achievement on SG, time sure flies, I kinda remember some of your first threads here, It gave some freshness to the site.
Iยดll try to be brief about one of my favorite games, I think this is the second time I talk about this, starting to sound like a parrot...
Back in the day I didnยดt know a lot about Steam, I just knew you had to pay in dollars so that kept me out of the equation for a while. You and me have something in common before the Steam era. So, the first "powerful" graphics card was a GT240 (terrible card if you ask me), but It let me try some of the most immersive games that theyยดre still considered in the top 100. First experience with an online PvP MP was Blacklight Retribution, which was free and still outside of Steam, sure It was a good experience and kept playing like a filthy casual, but It wasnยดt until 2012 when I saw on Gamespot a report on the "7 day FPS challenge" which I think It was at San Francisco that time and from all of the indie games the one that really pulled me in was the "Sub Rosa" demo. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AHcOAcCtOAQ
It was one of the most hard learning curves in gaming for me because of the toxic player base, they took the mafia character very seriously sometimes, If you messed up and killed one of your teammates on a bad trade you would get killed by the team leader at the start of the next round, It was very discouraging but I kept playing because I love the premise, It was such a small and simple game with only 3 modes. Despite the super toxic players like for example "Furry Sex Roleplay Wins" which was one of the best marksmen there, there were other really good players that would tolerate and carry you, like Target Finder, Citizen Kane and Hitler (yes he called himself like that and he was feared just like the real one, even the Furry guy used to respect him). Criken, the now popular Twitch streamer was there and he probably role played with his buddies a lot and we didnยดt even know about It, we just had a good laugh at all the crazy s*** they used to do or type, because every communication was through typing. They play or used to play the new version too https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KBgpl-ZYkNI
I canยดt really say how many hours I spent with the demo but when I upgraded the graphics card to a Radeon 7850 I kept playing the freaking unpolished demo now at 1080p.
I havenยดt tried the new version of Sub Rosa on Steam for many reasons, I just hope Alex Austin polish the title and becomes popular to an extent (It is not a game for everyone mostly because of the toxic players).
Here is a video on how Alex Austin has improved the game physics:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pu0JFCdF8cQ
THE END.
PS: Sorry for the bad grammar here and there, Iยดm really rusty atm.
Have a good one.

I got really into Super Cloudbuilt and I would compete on the in-game speedrun leaderboards. There is a glitch in the physics where the game considers you to be sliding down a slope or falling when actually you are stuck in place. While in a sliding or falling state you are constantly accelerating downwards due to gravity, and even though we are not moving the speed value keeps increasing. This was a known issue, and it would allow you to die from fall damage even at low heights because of the high downward speed, but the level geometry to allow this glitch is rare so it wasn't considered a big deal. One day I was playing as usual when I accidentally got stuck in one of those rare glitches, but this was next to a slide with a ramp at the end. I got unstuck, landed on the slide, and launched off the ramp with far more speed than normal. After testing I found a way to use the glitch to skip a large portion of this level: https://youtu.be/FHKAhkSR6ho

Also I was speedrunning Super Lucky's Tale for a while, and I was watching somebody play it casually on twitch when I saw them glitch into the wall by accident. The player was climbing onto a block while it slid into the wall, and it seems the climbing animation disables the collision checks because he ended up standing on the block inside the wall. After testing I was able to save time by using this glitch to skip fighting 3 waves of enemies at the end of this level: https://youtu.be/sa5WSaIxD9M

So, you want a story, I have a story. You will probably consider it boring, but seems a bit funny for me.
So, back in days of my youth I've had a 386dx-40 PC (40 stands for 40MHz btw. That's how fast it was) with black&green display (it was some terminal from old soviet mainframe, that was re-made by my friend to be VGA-compatible). Oh, and not connected to this story, but while re-making this display to VGA it got sync lost once, whole screen collapsed to one dot in the middle and burned a black dot there. It very convenient to use this dot as a crosshair in doom and alike. But, back to the story. I was playing Another World (I still beleive this game is great even after all those years). And there is a place in this game, when you need to shoot down a chandelier on the head of the guard, when he is right below it, judging by the reflection in the chandelier. There is a video of how it should look on youtube. Buuut I did not know it back than. And game is designed that if you won't do it - you can't, or, rather, should not be able to pass this guard - if you try to fight he gets reinforcements, some of them coming from your back, that should not leave you any chance. Well, long story short, I spent a couple of days training, but I killed that guard, and all that came to help him. And proceed further with a game. And later, I think game required me to come back (but maybe I just got stuck so I was walking around), and when I came to that place again... there was a guard with a chandelier dropped on him... That's when I was "So thaaaats how I was supposed to pass here!". I wasn't very smart, yeah, but still a little proud that I managed to brute-force this place (even though probably there is a lot of hardcore gamers that can easily do this). And that's the end of this stupid story.

Holly molly! That's bad and awesome in the same time. You don't need a cross air if it's perfectly in the middle ๐

This game looks like it drawed inspiration from the first Prince of Persia games, you know, before the Sand of Time?

I think the story is nice! You probably can tell by now that I've whitelisted you already. It sucks when a game fails to explain what you're supposed to do. It's not that the game is bad, but without a proper tutorial or indication what you have to do, you can loose a lot of hours in the game, which now I can easy find a fix by looking on a YouTube video or reading a forum.
Thank you for sharing your story. I'm happy that somehow that brought you some fun memories both for your screen and Another World.

There was a way to adjust vertical/horisontal shift of screen, so I made sure it was in the same point where shots in Doom where hitting.
It sucks when a game fails to explain what you're supposed to do.
I don't think game has to spoon-feed everything to the player, finding what to do is half of the fun! In this particular case it was my fault that I did not understand what to do next, game did everything to direct me to the solution)

Happened before when I was much younger. I found it easier now to understand what a game is like, or I've not played the hard ones.

One of my favorite games is Final Fantasy 8. Back when i was a kid around 99'-01' i was playing the game in PS1. the game had a weird system that when you leveled up your main character then also the enemy monsters and bossed leveled up, of course as a kid i didn't know that(nobody did) and also there wasn't any youtube or site back then to see walkthroughs and tips. at some point around 3-4 hours in you are given an item called 'magic lamp' by an npc, that item should be used soon and when you use it you fight a summon called 'Diablos' and if you win the summon you can use it as your own. of course as a kid i didn't know that so i kept the item in my inventory for a long time. after a lot of hours of powerleveling and much further into the story i was checking my inventory and i saw the item still there so i decided to try and use it. the result was fighting an overpowered summon(due to my powerleveling till then) that kicked my butt and i had no idea how to beat. it took me several weeks and tries until i finally found a way to beat him, the satisfaction when he finally surrendered was amazing. i still remember that moment and i laught with myself because that boss is pretty easy if you fight him as soon as you get the 'magic lamp' but i accidentaly made it super tough ๐คฃ

Oh I've heard that being a thing. Does it carry in the Remastered as well?
I've not played any of the Final Fantasy games, but I've heard that was a feature that luckily we're not seeing it that often happening in newer games. I am the type of player that would power-farm myself to the point the end boss dies a lot more easily. I never encountered a game that was going against that.
Comment has been collapsed.
yes it is still in the remaster and ff8 is the only final fantasy that this happens. it is not much of a problem with the rest of the enemies, i guess the developers didn't think people will fight 'Diablos' at a very high level but if you do he has very high HP and hits hard.
Comment has been collapsed.
For sure. I think Final Fantasy 8 will be remade after Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth, FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE INTERGRADE. Do you think I should worry about the outdated graphics for it, if I want to play it as from FINAL FANTASY 1 to 15, excluding the online ones, as I think that would take me too much to cover the story?

Steam tags are never to be trusted, lol. The art style is far from cute and the "story" isn't rich at all, it's all in the collectables... which are also the main thing of the game? Think Journey/Abzu, but every other time you pick something up, you get a paragraph of the story.
It was hella difficult. I didn't think of myself as someone who'd have a lot of trouble playing a platformer game, but this one was a nightmare. It was nice that I could see how the dev progressed with each new location, making the areas you have to jump up to more obscure or the riddles more challenging, but it made the whole thing a nightmare. Since it's a 3D platformer, every time I missed a jump, I had to turn around and zip back to the first thing I needed to jump on... which is fine, standard trial-and-error, but it stops being enjoyable when it's the tenth (or so) try and I just know it's not me being stupid, failing to utilize a mechanic or simply not reaching a platform, but that it's more like the game itself is trying to fight me for no apparent reason. Most times I'd fail those jumps by having the character bash their head against the platform I was trying to jump to (as opposed to grabbing it and getting up on it, which for some reason happened only very randomly at times) and fall down like an idiot. Not to mention how after unlocking a dash mechanic, I would assume some jumps are too far to be made normally, use the dash, head bashed, fell down. Rinse and repeat like five times, then tried to do that same jump without the dash and all of a sudden it worked. Punishing players for trying to use a mechanic correctly? Inexcusable, imo.
Bottom line is, even if I were the kind of person to like an aesthetic like your Abzus and your Journeys (I'm not, for the record), since some people seem to think that's what that game was going for, it would all be ruined by the system trying to fight me on pretty much every darn level.

Ok... this goes way back. I played the original Populous in 1990--such a blast to play the original god game.
In 1992, I was determined to get through all 120(?) levels. At one point deep in, I finally found a level that was unsolvable (too few lemming abilities); the game would not allow progress to the next level until solve. Impossible! After hours and hours, I somehow came up with the solution. It was so convoluted, I was still in shock that it worked.
I was a big fan of original Freecell. I was always determined to solve ALL levels. NO resigning and passing to the next level just because it was tough(see above). There are quite a few very tough sequences. One day for a couple hours, I worked through a level from many angles. Finally, I decided: "NOPE--it is impossible--it cannot be done!!" Then I googled the level and found a fan/enthusiast page which listed notable and difficult levels. There was 1 level out of them ALL that was actually impossible--and I had found it! Without publishing a rigorous mathematical proof, I was validated that my logic was solid.

It's hard to find any newer god-like game like Populous in the recent years. Do you have any recommendations? My favorite was Black & White, although that dates a bit way back and I don't feel like replaying it.

That's amazing! Do you still like to challenge yourself with difficult games?
PS: You're whitelisted. ๐

Perhaps I can answer that best this way: I have yet to find an interesting mobile game because a smartphone is just a dumbed-down computer. The controls (user input) on a phone are so limited that it is almost impossible to make a complex engaging game.

When Diablo 1 first came out... (a long long looong time ago) I playd it a lot... my cousin always wanted to see what I was up to at that so I thought.. why not...
We started to play in the first dungeon (were The Butcher was hiding behind a door) and I knew it would happen.. but did not warn my cousin... and had loud sound on..
My cousin jumped scared so much that she felt off the chair and on the floor...

Cool moment in Baldur's Gate 1"
My Fighter/Rogue was using Dagger of Venom +2 so there were a few funny things. But I loved to kill mages the most as I hide and sneak and sometimes they exploded into bloody bits just because of my backstab attack and sometimes the poison from Dagger of Venom +2 got them and they were unable to cast any spells as the poison did damage them and interrupted their spell casting.

Me and Infiltrator, Garrus Vakarian and Ashley Williams landed on some random planet. We drive the M35 Mako and find a building surrounded by 2 watchtowers with enemies there and one enemy patrolling the entrance tot he building. We drive away from the front before they could see us and drive from the side and parked the MAKO on the mountain. We each get our sniper rifles ready and I issue commands and in the same second each one of us shot different enemy with sniper rifles and each shot is a headshot and instant kill. It was EPIC to see how 3 enemies die in the same second without even knowing who hit them and from where :)

When I was a young'un I played a lot of Red Alert on the PlayStation. The game came on two disks so effectively I had two copies of the game for multiplayer. I bought a link cable and frequently invited my friend over to play. That meant he had to bring his own PlayStation over and we would have to set up another (small) CRT TV for him to play on. ๐
And so we played skirmishes against each other, but we were both very defensive so games would go on for hours. xD
When the game went on for too long we started getting a strange bug where we would randomly lose units on the map. We would hear the sound queue of a lost unit and saw the wreckage, but no culprit. After a while we finally caught what happened: some kind of visual distortion would appear and slowly crawl across the map, destroying what it came into contact with, and then disappear again.
Many years later, we learned that it was not a bug/glitch but a feature called chrono vortexes, which occur from using the chronosphere ability too much. Canonically, that resulted in space-time rifts that would destroy whatever was around it.

I donโt know, I couldnโt even remember how many games I played so far, but if I have to pick the game, then they must be The Legend of Heroes: Trails in the Sky and Skyrim, first introduced me to the JRPG and the game world, also made me stuck with RPG forever. The latter opened my eyes once more, because I never thought you could have such lively fantasy world, and its lore is like a cherry tops off an ice cream.

Hi folks,
I've officially aged 1 year on this platform and I'm honestly really pleased with the overall experience. I think the community in general is great, and I've enjoyed posting weird question gaming topics about pretty much anything.
I've had a really busy week as I've been working on a couple of videos, but I have to catch up to the most recent RPG topic. For those who haven't got a response, please bare with me while I catch up.
Well, I know it's kinda random and weird to celebrate cake days, but I'm willing to do something for you guys once I build up a little bit my whitelist audience. You've probably seen some of my giveaways and that I was showcasing what giveaways I'll be doing next.
If you have no idea, well it was about this one:
Anyway, what I'm trying to get at is that I'm running a set of giveaways and if you want to take part in in I'd be more than happy.
On top of that, I'm opened to give whitelists to people who are willing to share one of their best experience in your favorite game. Like, pitch me a cool moment you had, be it funny or unexpected. If I think it's a cool story, you betcha you'll get my whitelist.
Thank you for taking the time to read through my rumble. If I've upset you, disrespected you or mistreated you in some way, I apologize. I know for a fact that I won't be able to befriend everyone even if I want to, but do know that I don't intend to hold grudges.
Anyway, I hope ya'll have a great week! Thanks for everything!
