This doesn't even look that usual Groupees bad at all. Nowhere near a quality I would shell out 5 bucks for, but had this been an Indiegala bundle, I'd probably have attempted to groupbuy it.

Mystery game being a real mystery.

Great, tried Jack Quest (one that seemed most fun), when i saw they also making Foxy Land 2 (part 1 was an asset flip) that didn't promised much good, so first boss i die, and keep going into a dieing loop.

Yeah i noticed that but if they are different can they just take over the name Foxyland 2 (unless they been granted permission)? And usually there are tie ins, maybe same dev under a different name.

I would've liked this one, but I actually am, for the first time ever, so out of money that I couldn't preorder it. XD Oh well! Time to hunt for trades.

Please, do not mention trades in the forum. Both as direct offers, and mentioning you're just willing to trade.

This one surprises me a little. The Guidelines state, "Trades should not be posted or organized on the site." You are equating "organizing a trade" with "mentioning you're willing to trade [in the context of a longer message with more content]." If that is the guidance that Mods have received, then it is what it is, but I think it's going unnecessarily far-- just my opinion. The point of the rule is, well, so that people aren't posting and trying to organize trades, even stuff like "Hey, looking to trade for Bad Rats," or "Bought the bundle...anyone wanna trade?" I'd argue that's not what Celtic7Guardian is doing here.

For my information, which of these would be considered violations?

  1. "Nice bundle...I'll probably buy it and keep some while trading away others."
  2. "Hmm, not good enough to buy, but I'll probably end up trading for some of those."
  3. "I guess I'll check out Steamtrades."
  4. "Will probably buy...good gifting and trading fodder."
  5. "I think that HumbleBundle has really decreased in quality since the acquisition by IGN. I used to buy their bundles all the time, but these days, I prefer just trading for the one or two I want."

I would think all of them violate the "mentioning you're willing to trade" criterion. IMO, only #3 approaches a violation, and if nothing else it doesn't add anything. If these really are all violations, than I strongly suggest the Guidelines be updated to say:

Trades should not be posted or organized on the site. Do not mention trading or a willingness to trade.

I would disagree with that clause in the Guideline, but at least it would be clear. Do you think I should post this suggestion in the Bugs/Suggestions section? Thanks for your time.

Yes, please copy-paste it in a new thread in Bugs/Suggestions with a link to this thread. We need to be in the clear with the new interpretation of this rule.

Mm, I can't say I blame you. I try to avoid conflict myself, which is why I was surprised to see so many people popping up to talk about my comment. XD Still, best to get everything straightened out!

Oof, this post reads as if the word "trade" is banned in any context now? We need clarification for that.

Trentjaspar goes into great detail with his post concerning the context here. Celtic is just casually mentioning going off to hunt for trades, as is mentioned at least once in every thread in the deals section, not as straight offers but as casual asides. That's the key phrase here "casual aside". At most his statement could be interrupted as he is going to head over to SteamTrades or Bundlesplits and that's if you ignore the rest of the context of his statement which makes clear that "I'm off to hunt for trades" is a flippant remark not an offer. The ban on flat out trading in the forms is understandable as there's a site for that but given the nature of Steamgifts and the fact that it's a partner-ish to Steamtrades, banning said word in any context is...weird.

Yeah, definitely not looking for trades here. I've made comments to this effect for a long time without anyone saying anything, and I've seen similar comments all over the place, so I'm definitely surprised that it's an issue. Direct requests for trading I get, but even bringing up the word 'trade' is against the rules now? ._.

(Also, I'm a she. But I'm just nitpicking. =P)

Whoops! So am I yet for some reason I still default to "He" in general context haha. Apologies. I hope you haven't been too overwhelmed by the little mini-storm this situation seems to have caused.

No worries! I tend to make mention of it if someone addresses me as such and leave it at that. XD As for being overwhelmed, nah, more of a 'wait what happened' moment followed by '...have I been breaking the rules for this long?' moment. Like, I was going to post in another topic just now that I got a game from a trade (in response to someone telling me I'd probably find a game I was looking for in a bundle) but I had to stop and go, "Wait, does THAT break the rules, even though I already traded and it was on barter?" It's not a great feeling to have to be so concerned about wording. It was much easier when I thought all I had to do was not directly ask for trading (or heavily imply I was asking.)

That's the first time I've ever had a mod ask me to not mention going to look for trades in another location. I wasn't asking anyone to trade here, so I thought it was fine to just comment that I liked the games enough to search for them elsewhere. Sorry if that's an issue; I'll edit the post if it's against the rules in even that context.

Competitive price for $3 when compared to $3 Fanny and IG bundles.
Still don't regret skipping this though.

Had this been a non-blindbuy for $3 they'd probably have close to 3k sales by now. Which would be more profit for all. Groupees really needs to reconsider their sales model.

Yeah, price for this should've been $3 without a preorder. I haven't bought an IG or Groupees bundle in a while, I got tired of the gimmicky preorders and happy hours. I stick to Fanatical and Humble now, both are far more professional and at least with Humble Monthly they reveal a couple of games each month and the quality usually makes it worth it. Groupees continues to dig their own grave with their preorders and IG isn't far behind.

Huh? Been on SG for almost 5 years now and wrote in many many bundle threads when I didn't wanna buy a bundle that I would try to win or trade for the games I'd have interest in. I know direct trading offers are not allowed and this wasn't one, nor was it meant as one. I wrote this here and immediately turned to the venues where trading usually happens. So please, Missy, what all of a sudden is the problem? Is the mere word "trade" a taboo on SG now?

But doing it indirectly (same as begging) one could still get what he wants (because one can count on someone reading it and say "oh i will help you"). That's always been the case and not new, because noone adressed it before is because this stuff always just happens on a whim of whoever mod is reading along. ;)

And when i requested months ago for some clear set rules on certain things, it's still the same old faq and then you get one mod doing/saying this and the other something else.

Anyway great looking mystery game.

Then we can basically disable commenting on all bundle threads, because everybody's mentioning what they like and don't like about a bundle, which could all be interpreted as indirect trading attempts. That's silly.

Anyways, I know, right?! Had they hinted on it in the preorder phase, they'd have sold many more bundles...

...because everybody's mentioning what they like and don't like about a bundle...

And when someone gets caught "crossing the line," they earn a suspension for trading on SteamGifts. Those who dance on the edge of a pit oftentimes fall in. It is wiser to stay away from the pit.

Especially when the pit has been widened into a chasm with no announcement or changes to the Guidelines. Oh well, it's often wiser to stay away from unpredictable rule systems when the consequence is falling into an unofficially broadened pit.
