Might and Magic 1-5 are relatively similar. Might and Magic 6-8 are mostly identical due to the engine being used.
The Might and Magic games are essentially grid-based dungeon explorers with turn-based combat (visuals being relatively bare bones). Until MM6, when the game can be played a bit more like Elder Scrolls: Daggerfall. Anyways, you create your party, get your first quest and you're set loose. Most of the early games responsibility of keeping track of quests and where you are will be completely on you. MM6+ have maps and decent journals keeping track of that for you.
Heroes of Might and Magic are strategy games where each battle is fought on a hex grid between the armies of your hero and the enemy party. Your army consists of basically chess pieces representing all of your troops. To build your army you need to build up your town (you just by new structures, no needing to find a place where to build them etc) and to build up your town you need resources. You get resources by capturing them on the field. The meat of the game will be spent acquiring these resources from neutral factions while fending off the AI opponent until you can capture all of his cities and wipe him out. Heroes 3 is regarded as the best, but if you prefer having your hero more physically in the fight Heroes 4 would be more your thing. Also, each victory gets experience for your hero allowing him to level. And you can collect artifacts to increase you and your troop's power.
Crusaders is crap.
Dark Messiah is nothing like the other games. However, I think the combat is WAY better than anything Oblivion has to offer and edges out Skyrim. You can kick goblins off cliffs, onto fires, into spikes. Roll barrels down stairs smashing into pursuers. Summon a fireball and control it in midair to loop behind your target and explode into his back. It's also extremely linear. Oh, and there's a bow that when fired makes a rope for you to climb (if you hit a material that the arrow can grab into).

Hard to tell sometimes with this place. We get GOG games occasionally too. Still, I covered it all... 'cept Clash of Heroes.

It's only 75% off if you buy the entire pack of Might & Magic games, otherwise it's 50% off. It's pretty much why I have bought absolutely nothing from GOG this holiday season, because most of their deals have been like that and I haven't wanted very many of the games in the packs.

If you are getting heroes 6, then know that the offline mode is sucky.

I have the complete edition ( 1-5 ) and most are amazing apart from the 4th one . Personally Heroes 3 is my favorite but i like the 5th one

Personally I couldn't get into the Heroes of Might and Magic games. Probably because I always expected/hoped they would be similar to Master of Magic. That doesn't mean they are bad games though.
