Okay, I'll try. I haven't finished Cave Story yet, but I've played it for a couple of hours and so far I'm liking it. It's basic 2D-platfroming action, but extremely well done. So if you enjoy games like that, you should try this game.
The music and graphics are retro-style, so they might divide opinions, some like it, others hate it. Personally I think both of them are awesome, especially the soundtrack is kick-ass awesome.
Overall the game is enjoyable. There are multiple difficulty levels to best suit your gaming skills. I should add that this game is all about skills. Enemies won't make cheap shots, so if you die, it's completely your own fault. That is what makes this game truly enjoyable: you must use your own abilities to get through it, no luck is involved.
And my final words: please do yourself a favor and buy Cave Story, it's a hidden gem of a game :)

I hated Steam before as it was DRM... but now, I own so many games on it and use it so much... you'd have to kill me to take it away. I prefer my games to be manaaged by STEAM. I paid for them, they are mine. I can download and delete them when I please instead of having to burn them to a dvd I may lose, or back them all up onto a secondary hard-drive. When you have 250 games on steam, you begin to appreciate it more.

^this. I used to hate steam as well, but then as I bought Skyrim and DE:HR boxes and were both steam related had to make an account, then bought some games from sales, then some bundles, then some more and now I don't even bother to buy game DRM free - even if they are all downloadable you then have to remember all your accounts to all kind of sites. What games you own on GOG, what on Uplay, what on Capsule and so on and ona and on - I prefer having all my games in one place and be able to choose what to download and delete all the time ;P

Recettear. If you haven't played it and you like managing stuff, you haven't truly lived.
e: Cook, Serve Delicious is also great for a game recently released. And of course, Lume is worth every penny if you adore unique graphics. The end puzzle might be a bit frustrating though.
