Anybody have this or any insight on it, looking to start making some maps/mods for it as I'm from Georgia and working on getting into the industry and the company has advised me to work on some mods/maps for their game. Thanks in advance.

I have it but I don't understand what you're asking.

He wants to make maps or mods for Killing Floor so he can gain some experience, and asks for some tips?

You should ask about this on other forums more involved in mod/develop of games.. like the Facepunch forums..

Starting learning how to use Unreal Editor 3.0 and go from there.

There is no point in linking you to a Killing Floor specific tutorial if you don't know the basics of the UED.

You should buy the game first since you need the editor then start learning UE2.0. Had in mind making a map but cant because of school.

If you're asking how to make a GOOD map for Killing Floor. I suggest make the travel from shop to shop a long one. Make it so the survivors wont camp because they want to get to the shop on time and have time to buy their stuff.

If you're asking how to make maps, man i dont have a clue :(

You guys basically hit the nail on the head, I was just wondering about map suggestions and also any input on the game before I purchase it as I've never played it before. I know a little about UDK and things like that but I have no familiarity with the game itself.

why not asking on the games forums?

Primarily because I don't want to go onto their forums and start going off about being in contact with them and hurting any chance of having a job if it goes twisted somehow.

this is not exactly the right place to ask suggestions for new maps for a game, that is supposed to be your work.. if you want to get to the industry you can't ask for suggestions on a forum.. you need to think a lot about it.. maybe you should check some Killing Floor forums, there must be lots of mods made by other users, by playing them you can maybe have some ideas.. idk..

It was more game input that map input but if people offered map input, that's spectacular but I see what you are saying.

I don't know anything about game development, but I can say that Killing Floor is a really fun game. The perk system is great, and the gore looks awesome. If you're thinking about mods, I would suggest designing some new weapons for the game (although there's already quite a few to choose from). There have already been a good amount of weapon mods implemented into the actual game.

Awesome, very helpful reply. I greatly appreciate the input. I can explain a little further I guess so people can understand why I ask opinions, though please note not to gather any sort of sympathy. I'm an 80% disabled combat veteran, I'm waiting now for the Department of Veterans Affairs to go through their red tape so I can start school for game design. Aside from that, I'm working online for an MMO and I'm doing random things in my free time. All that said, I don't get a lot of money so deciding what games to buy is a priority as I can't purchase everything and research is crucial. Rather than go to the game's forum where I assume everyone is a fan, I'd prefer to gather intel from an intelligent, typically non-biased community rather than go to...say GameFAQS.

I've fantasized about being a game designer, but never really saw it as a plausible career, for me anyways. Good luck with your research. And sorry to hear about your injuries, sounds like you've been through quite a lot.

Thank you for that, it was all part of my job so I can't really sit around and say "Why'd this happen to me?" I never really saw it as plausible either but I had the good fortune of meeting someone through one of my healthcare providers who works at Insomniac and he has been nice enough to kind of point me in the direction I need to go. Beyond that, I have just emailed all of the game studios here in Georgia and asked them their advice on everything from school to education and specialization focusing. So far two of them have been nice enough to offer for me to come into their studio and talk with them.

Thank you for your service. Sad to see you have to deal with red tape.

Maybe look into developing items or levels for games that support SteamWorks(Killing Floor supports Steamworks). Not only can you get exposure but in certain situations like TF2 items, you can get paid.

I had looked into TF2 a while back, it's a game I frequent as a premium player and I've spent some cash on there as well (even paying for some map stamps to give to those folks who made those.) Killing Floor came up simply because I was in touch with Tripwire today as one of the companies I mentioned above that I had emailed and that is the particular game they advised me to work on. Thanks again for all of the input, it really is helpful and truly appreciated.

Killing Floor and Dungeon Defenders are both good choices if you're looking to get into modding and level design, both games have an open source and free development tools.

I had seen Dungeon Defenders both on Steam and on the Xbox 360 but hadn't really paid a whole lot of attention to it in all honesty, I will definitely have to give it a good looking over though, thank you.

No, I never said that. I said that they advised me that making maps and/or mods is the best way to get them familiar with my name.

Similar to BrandonL, I've never really made a map in my life, nor do I know how to. But if it is Killing Floor specific map tips, I have plenty to say, having played Killing Floor for many many hours (I used to have another account I used to play killing floor with, but that one is long gone.).

I've watched some videos now I just need to free up the funds for it and I'll be in it but if you have ideas I'd be happy to talk.

I think making good maps in Killing Floor tend to be a more dynamic process as compared to other games. Objectively good maps may not necessarily be community favourites - Foundry for example, is a great map, objectively. It allows all the classes to take part effectively, with multiple hold-out points, with big enough space for extended kiting, yet still not being excessively big. Don't see it played all that often though.

Any experience with KF, personally?

One or two horror atmosphere oriented maps would be good (dark lighting, corners for surpises). Also another Sharpshooter weapon would be good (high to mid price rifle that is better than the lever action).
