Hi everybody !

I have discovered a little glitch with Torchlight yesterday. I have preordered TL2 since it was possible so they gifted me the first one. Yesterday, I bought an Humble Bundle (buy it, it's worth at least 1$ by far !) and I activated it on Steam. And about 2 or 3 minutes after that I saw that I had a new item in my inventory ! Torchlight ! Whereas I already have it in my Steam library.

I don't know if you can't do it more than once. I just gave it to my friend but I hope there will not have "gift exploitation" like with Trine keys :-/

Nope, the developer wanted you to have an extra copy with your preorder. It's fine in this instance.

2 copies with my preorder ? Are you sure ?

Yes. It is undocumented, but plenty of people have confirmed this is what happens. If you have a Torchlight 2 pre-order on your Steam account and redeem a Better Than Average HIB6 key, you will receive an additional gift copy of Torchlight along with your pre-order copy/gift.

It wasn't a Better Than The Average key of the HIB6 ^^

if you have the game in your library already it's so obvious it will go to inventory as you can't hold the same game twice in the library

so obvious that all the other bundle games don't work like that.

Yeah but when you activate a HiB on Steam, if you already own some of the games in the bundle, they aren't sent into your inventory.

Normally, that is what happens. Runic Games must have made some sort of special arrangement with Valve and Humble Bundle.

Why did I not get one then? ;_;

Although I'm not sure why, it seems like everyone who did get an extra copy purchased the Better Than Average bundle. Again, not sure why that would somehow affect the Steam key that is provided for the five base games.

EDIT: Okay, so Constus says elsewhere in this thread that his wasn't a BTA key. Guess I was wrong.

I also didn't get an extra copy. Traded preorder from someone who bought the 4pack

Ye, I got mine from trading(won it) too.

Maybe that's why?

I'd never mind a free tradeable game :D

With all the copies floating around AND it being in HB6 it wouldn't be worth much to most traders.

Yep but some friends of mine don't have it yet and they didn't buy HIBVI so far. You're right though, doesn't make a big difference

What actually happened was the hib6 key replaced the tl2 pre-order bonus of the first one (at least in my case) and thus the pre-order bonus was then in my inventory

If I preordered torchlight 2 else where (but have it on my steam) will this still happen?

Either way that is nice of the devs to do.

This isn't a bug, the way HIB works is if you already purchased a game (not activated a key for it) before activating the hIB you will get a extra copy of that game.

It works only with BTA bundles most likely. I bought it for $1 and didn't get any TL1 copies. Not that I mind though, it's a terrible game, but I was planning to give it to a friend.

Well it seems it's officially a glitch and here is why. I contacted HiB support and here is their answer:

Our Steam keys do not generate giftable copies on Steam or through Humble Bundle. Please consider your bundle a “unit” and not to share copies of the games or Steam keys from it. If you’d like to give a copy of the games away, we have a system in place that allows you to buy a gift key from www.humblebundle.com so your friends can have access to direct downloads as well as any Steam or other keys we have included.

The extra giftable copies of Torchlight some users are receiving are unintended, and we’re currently looking into the issue with Steam.

I’m so sorry about the inconvenience!
