Bumping for the European crowd now that the group's up.

Not for me, no. I've had one crash and one disconnect, but that's it.

those mechs come later in the fluff "timeframe"
technically according to their statements as far as 1:1, clan invasion happened earlier this year. yet no one has heard a word.
By this point in the year most of the top of the inner sphere had been smashed up pretty badly by Phelan Kell's homies.

EDIT
Ugh.. had to edit this. I was thinking of a Battletech book and not a mechwarrior one when I was mentioning yen-lo-wang >< Sorry.
Comment has been collapsed.
I got linked to this, which certainly seems legitimate. But yeah, I have never seen BattleTech/MechWarrior books, games, anything on sale. It sucks hard.
Comment has been collapsed.
I get mines in bookshops lol.
You can always ask your local bookseller to order them for you.
Comment has been collapsed.
That requires them to a) know what the hell I'm talking about and b) for them to still be in print. You'd be surprised how often a lot of books go out of print very quickly.

No, not bad. It just means you know nothing of why these mechs are shooting each other. There's more history and fluff in this world than Lord of the Rings and Song of Ice and Fire combined.
Seriously, read the Blood of Kerensky trilogy. Its freakin' awesome.

Madcats popped up after / during the clan wars. The MMO is supposed to be way way before that.
In-fact if I remember correctly it was quite a ways into the clan wars that the madcat was created. Was only after they managed to get specific tech figured out that they eventually started working on them.
Do not remember much about the Dashi though so I can not say anything there.. my fav mechs = Timberwolf + Direwolf :P That and one other mech that I forgot its name to, but was designed to look like a spider. Remember playing one of the mech war games with that one and I kept on popping the cockpits of other players with it. POed my friends and they disallowed me from using it ever again after the 3rd match :P

Actually, MWO is meant to be in the middle of the Clan invasion of the Inner Sphere right now. Their 1:1 timeline got massively screwed up. It's currently 3050, making the Timber Wolf 55 years old. It was the first mech Inner Sphere forces encountered.
Comment has been collapsed.
Daishi = Dire Wolf.
Every clan mech has 2 names. The names the people who piloted them used, and the names the people who fought against them used.
Its not like they got together to say "Hey, when you're alphaing this mech we made, you have to refer to it by its PROPER name."
Most of the names the Inner Sphere uses are made up on the spot by the pilots encountering them. Even then, its usually a mashup of other names. For instance the Mad Cat (Timberwolf). To the Inner Sphere (or Phelan Kell, who first encountered them) it looked like some crazy mashup of a CATapult with MArauDer arms. Hence, "Mad Cat". No one else knew wtf to call it. The clans had already named it long ago. They called it the Timberwolf.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yea sorry about that, I do not always get the names. I would get too used to some mechs being called one name or another and forget they have other names too.

"Vaguely resembling a cross-over between the MAD (Marauder) and CAT (Catapult) series, the Timber Wolf was tagged with the Inner Sphere reporting name Mad Cat on first contact. (The targeting computer on Phelan Kell's Wolfhound switched between MAD and CAT when trying to identify it; Precentor Martial Anastasius Focht later officially designated it "Mad Cat"."
The Timber Wolf is vastly more powerful than either the Marauder or the Catapult. It uses its speed and firepower to engage an enemy at the range of its choosing. When first encountered by Inner Sphere forces the idea that a heavy 'Mech could move so swiftly while being as heavily armed and armored as the Timber Wolf was inconceivable. With its twelve tons of Ferro-Fibrous armor and arsenal that rivaled that of most assault 'Mechs of the era, it was completely alien to Inner Sphere military planners, commanders, and even the Precentor Martial of ComStar. Its technological secrets have since been reverse-engineered by the Inner Sphere.
First introduced in 2945, the Timber Wolf was designed by Clan Wolf as a second generation OmniMech along with the Gargoyle and the Naga to replace the aging Woodsman. While the Gargoyle may have been a very capable, fast assault OmniMech, and the Naga may have been an excellent fire-support OmniMech, Clan Wolf (and indeed every other Clan) instantly realized the value of the Timber Wolf; thus, production rights to the Timber Wolf were jealously (and successfully) defended. Only through trade, gifts and battlefield salvage has the Timber Wolf entered the armies of other Clans. Until the invasion of the Inner Sphere, production of the Timber Wolf has been limited to a single facility on Strana Mechty.
TL;DR, First madcat-timberwolf sighting by innersphere = 3049.
Current timeframe in game, Sept 30, 3050.

I have to ask this.. how is the game now? I was in the beta. Before I moved into a place where I had really bad internet they had issues with some things.. stopped playing of course when I moved.. moved again since after they released the game officially.
Just wondering how much of it they have improved since. I do not have the room for that game at the moment otherwise I would try it out now :P ( Starwars old republic installed+tons of other games.. and tons of VNs... soo need to finish those. )

Right now, it's pretty much in the same state it was in closed beta. New mechs, new maps, a couple of consumables almost no-one uses. It's still fun, but we're all waiting on the first actual new content which is UI 2.0, supposedly in less than four weeks. "Soon after" is Community Warfare.

Joined the group!
After playing around with the trial Mechs for about a week, the other day I finally made my first purchase. I also spent a little bit of time researching what a good starter Mech would be before doing so, because I didn't want to screw myself over. So anyway, I ended up going with the Jenner JR7-F! A lot of people seemed to recommend going with that one, at least for the light class. Even just as stock it's not a bad machine, though I still upgraded everything possible on mine. =P I am now down to just 1.5 mil C-bills, though.. (That XL Engine 300 I bought was expensive!) but I do plan to keep with the thing for a while. I suppose if I want to change things up I could always use a trial Mech.
Anyway, I named her -=Slave I=- and loaded her up with 6 medium lasers, and after using it about 5 or 6 times I'm definitely liking it. I also got all of the basic efficiencies to make it even better. I'm still not totally sure about my loadout, so I'll probably tinker around with all of that until I get it set up to my liking.
Time to get on and play for a bit. =P
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, XLs are a bitch to buy. Pro tip, if you want to share the same engine rating between mechs, don't buy a new engine. Just swap it out. My JR7-K and JR7-F share a single XL 300 between them. Good luck with that Jenner. When you get it speed tweaked, it's hell for the enemy to put down.
Edit: Also, not selling weapons is another thing. You may need them for a later mech and it's expensive to buy them back.
Comment has been collapsed.
Ha, I never even thought about doing that with the engine. It would certainly save a whole lot of C-bills. It's a really great idea. Thanks for the tip!
As for the weapons, heatsinks, etc; Yea, I haven't been selling any parts at all. I figured that i would save 'em for another Mech, and also for playing around with loadouts. Seemed like a smart thing to do.
After getting all of the efficiencies for my Mech it's made it much quicker overall. I pretty much have to start getting used to it all over again, haha.

I haven't played MW:O since early early beta, I broke my joystick. :(
How is it now?
Comment has been collapsed.
I.. don't understand your answer. I was asking how the game was in comparison to early beta.. lol
Comment has been collapsed.
I was answering part of it. :P Joystick support is very, very poor right now.
Comment has been collapsed.
But I used the joystick back in beta and it seemed fine. Did they make it worse or something? :X
Comment has been collapsed.
Na. If you're happy with how it was back in beta, you'll find it the same. Me, i couldn't do it without getting some kind of zero pull-back setup. when i put the torso a direction, i don't want it trying to fight back and push back to 0-point. I've seen people do it, I've seen people do other stuff. I just use keyboard and mouse.
Then again, I was one of those weird guys in Mech2 who only used keyboard controls. I think if i tried to go back and do that now, i'd give myself arthritis.

I messed around with a 360 controller and never got it to where I liked it better than keyboard & mouse. I would have unfortunately bought the Razer Artemis if they ever actually released the thing though... not sure how I feel about that. It's a Battletech/Mechwarrior product... I just have to support it.

Just played it (with a dev, no less). Really good!

What's focus firing? That means you should chase after that Spider taking potshots with a small laser in your short-range Atlas, right? Focus fire on one guy and never, ever let up till they're dead? Right? Guys? Right?

Project Phoenix came out and I have learned that I really absolutely suck with assault class mechs... >.<

Bumping for more kickass folks to pilot with. Nostram and I will protect the newbies by covering the skies with so many LRMs, you'll fight in the shade, and Kory can hop around in a Suicidebolt.

I'm better with assault mechs now. 85 tons of pink Battlemaster will help out the newbies. Come join us.

Hey, sorry for the late reply. I haven't checked SG that often. It never really got off the ground, sadly. The only people who really regularly showed up for anything were Koryitsu, Nostram and myself and I've been busy with real life/other games lately. The three of us were more than happy to kick arse with more players but we never managed to get a group together. Too few people online at the same time was part of it, I think.

If this does get off the ground count me in. I'm an awful light pilot but I can do anything else pretty well. Just add me on Steam.

The SteamGifts MechWarrior Online group is now all systems nominal. No skill needed, just the ability to have fun.
Original post:
Yeah, yeah, I know that PGI are busy running it into the bloody ground but there's still some life in it and it's just "launched" so I figure why not now? I know there's a few fellow BT/MW fans on these forums (shout out to Koryitsu who even mailed me a copy of MechWarrior 2 last year <3).
Anyone up for a little Steamgifts grouping? Just post your ingame name (thejadefalcon for me, naturally. Did you freebirths expect anything else?), preferred tonnage class (light) and your timezone (UTC/GMT for me).
If you're a newbie, don't worry, we'll set you right up with tips on how to play, good mech loadouts, all the things. If you already have a few mechs set up, why don't you post a couple of your favourites, let us see what you pilot, get a feel for your playstyle.
Jenner JR7-D(S): No real change to the stock mech. Pretty effective as is. Dumped some SSRM ammo for jumpjets, making me more mobile.
Jenner JR7-K: Been playing with the missles on this. Had LRM-5s instead, but when they were useful, they were REALLY useful. When they weren't, there were an absolute waste and made me focus too much on my heat to avoid an ammo explosion. Swapped them out for SRMs, promptly did 100 points more damage on average, took out a Cataphract with a single close-range volley and won the next five matches.
Jenner JR7-F: About the same as the D(S) but without the missiles, replacing them with an anti-missile system. Makes dodging LRMs a breeze and gives cover to any assaults I happen to be sitting by.
Blackjack BJ-1: Just bought this, so still playing around with it. Swapped out the AC/2s for AC/5s and 120 rounds, dropping the jets and the arm lasers.
Yep. I'm the guy nipping at your heels and pissing you off all the time. My bad. <3 I was planning on getting an Atlas soon, make a real brawler, but it's pretty expensive to grind to it, especially without premium time, so I might just buy a Catapult-A1 soon, model it after the Catapult-A1(C).
So, any interest in a SG MWO group/clan? It'll be at least a little fun, I guarantee it.
