WTF

Sad day for those of us who loved Plants Vs Zombies.

I'll wager all my socks that we'll have PvZ-2 at 59.99 with no less than 8 DLCs.

How is that "Good News"? They have a twisted sense of humor.

I'm hoping that PopCap got to write that part and meant it in exactly the way Farnsworth always does.

I thought they were interviewed a while back and stated that they wouldn't become a part of a larger company because they enjoyed the freedom of being who they were?

and then EA came and RUINED EVERYTHING AGAIN.

not really... if pop cap was really intent on being free, they could have turned down whatever offer they were made. It is not like they were forced into a settlement as a result of some infringement that could have gone to court. I think Pop Cap ruined everything by accepting EA's money would be a more correct statement... at least it puts the blame where it belongs.

If I'm not mistaken, they had refused large sums of money in the past from other companies. I guess the offer was a little too high to resist this time?

Guess what they really meant was that the money they were offered at the time made them feel that they "enjoyed the freedom of being who they were"... common price boosting strategy and leverage

Not yet, they'll be part of EA 01/02/2012.
And honestly, PopCap could have chosen worse. With Zynga or Activision for example.

Merger already done on July 11, 2011 for up to $1.3b cash and stock. 1/2/2012 is when the databases and all popcap registered customers data will begin to port to EA servers, and that's when EA ToS will come into effect.

I feel EA is still one of the worst publisher out there- Westwood Studios reminds of old wounds. :(

Not necessarily EA's fault in Westwood Studios' case. Many people left right away and those who stayed failed to meet earlier set standards. A look on Petroglyph Games proves imho that the remaining staff was mediocre at best.

I don't hate EA as much as many out there seem to. The only real problem with them as opposed to others is that they are a larger company and don't bother trying to hide the fact that they are a company that tries to make money. If you ever get mad at EA for excessive DLC for instance, then just think back to Bethesda and...horse armor.

Since EA is a larger company, they appear to have more "evil" traits, but it's not too far from normal except that the larger size means that you notice them more often. That's not to say that EA isn't a corporation of soulless demons who feed on the tears of children.

P.S. I agree that Zynga would have been a much worse choice than EA. If EA feeds on the tears of children, Zynga feeds on their blood, souls, and wallets.

Good point- however, isn't that the case with most new releases these days? Need I remind you the price of Skryim, Portal 2, CoD MW3, LoTR: War in the North, or any other game when it first gets released? Sure, most simpler games go for a lower price, but that price is not less than 20 dollars upon release. EA game prices are made to be competitive with those of their competitors (doing anything else would mean lost sales) so if other publishers started releasing their products at, say, 30 dollars, then so would EA. I think the issue with the pricing lies with the customer- as long as it sells, you will continue to see these prices on the release dates.

What EA Does: EA Monetizes Tetris

The T-Club costs $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year, and gives you access to “exclusive discounts"

Now Peggle and Plants vs Zombies can become Facebook games. $2.50 for every plant, for PvZ and $1.00 for every ball on Peggle.
Another excellent casual developer for EA to kill off in a couple years when they fail to bring it billions in profits.

Err, Popcap was already embracing Facebook before this happened. Yeah, they haven't gone down the route of introducing horrible pay-to-play features... which might or might not happen. EA hasn't been too keen on that, for some reason.

I don't think EA will be killing off the brand, because it's practically a household name at this point. What I expect might change is that they start releasing games more frequently.
