Bored again so I was wondering if anyone was had been in a closed beta test for a game or a product before.

And no early access games do NOT count.

The only one I was a part of was a closed beta tester for the original Guild Wars. That was some fun stuff.

And, as per the recent norm, here's a small GA in the form of a puzzle. Yeah, I make you work for your entries.

I've been in closed beta in a small indie project, Magic Of Autumn, where I appear in the credits as beta tester. I also appear in "thanks" section in a couple other small games for helping with post-release for giving continuous feedback and bug spotting. Being beta tester and helping is nice, but seeing your name out of nowhere and without prior knowledge that it would happen in a game's credits is also a nice surprise ^_^

I was recently invited to playtest a game that is very early in development, like actually talking to the devs through Discord while streaming my screen. Looks like I will get to play more as the game develops if I want to. I had to sign an NDA though so maybe I shouldn't say more than that.

I remember playing Elder Scrolls Online before it released, but I think a lot of people were. I don't remember having to leave any feedback there.

Outside of gaming. I got a full box of ketchup that this company (I was in a test panel) wanted me to promote for free. Can't even remember what ketchup it was, it was back in mid 00s.

I dont know if it counts as beta testing, but I did apply for Philips product testing program and there was a possibility to test out Philips OneBlade electric razor. Applied for the test and had to provide a review in their website and I could keep the razor.

Pretty cool, gave a constructive review also stating things I didn't like. Its worth 30-40 EUR I think, so I'm happy :D Still works after almost two years.

Play tested "Space Trucker", closed to about 12 people I think. We were credited in the rolling credits. https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=804739190

Yes, a few games. Kaze and the Wild Masks Closed Beta. They haven't released the full game on mac, which is a shame. They were testing a mac version in both the closed beta and the open beta.

I'm never interested in MMOs and that kind of thing, so usually don't bother.

In the only game I was a tester, it was in Don't Starve: Hamlet. At first they asked about 10,000 people where about 20,000 responded. They took us all in, a few at a time, and eventually allowed us to keep the game, even though several of us were willing to pay for early-early access.

Maybe in some MMORPG, but I can't remember anymore. Now they just made closed beta with pre-orders and I never do that.

Coilworks was working on a multiplayer game in the Cloudbuilt universe called Sky Tracers a little while back. I did get to participate in the closed beta but only for like an hour because we were limited to playing during organized events and the game was cancelled shortly after.

I got into the closed beta for Elder Scrolls Online before it launched.

I had to wait a few weeks or so for the invite, and it came 3 days before the end of the beta. I had very slow internet at the time, and I finished downloading the game literally hours before it ended, I barely managed to get out of the tutorial area before it shut down.
