Hello,

I'm currently looking for a good controller for PC gaming. I'm pretty casual, so I don't want anything more expensive than 30€, but in best case, it should be around 20€.
Does anyone have a recommendation? I'm thinking about getting a XBOX 360 controller for PC, or should I get something else?
If you could recommend me amazon.de-available/in Germany available controllers, that would be awesome! However, if you can't, go ahead and post other links!

Good choice, I have an XB360 controller myself.
Works with most games without need for tweaking or third-party apps.
Should be cheaper these days too.
If you buy wired, you can just buy the regular one (for the XB360) since your PC will recognize it and download the appropriate driver.
(They sell a special "for PC" version for an extra 5-10 bucks I believe.)

I use PS2 and i'm happy with my choice, but get 360 controller. Most games that support controller will show you xbox buttons.

I think the xbox 360 is the best buy for compatibility and quality

I use a PS3 controller since I find xbox controllers are too big, but I do agree with an xbox 360 controller will be the easiest to use with PC.

a lot of friends I know swear by the Logitech F310. It's an XBOX 360 style controller, is actually quite solid and works right out the bat, no installs and stuff required, just plug and play :)
Not sure how much it would cost in your region though or if it's available...

(If you have a larger budget and want a wireless variant, the F710 looks almost the same)

I love my (wired) Logitech F310, but keep in mind it uses the PS3 button configuration (sticks opposed to each other, not cock-eyed), although it uses the XBox number/color scheme (A, B, Y, X).

I second this one. I use it as well, no problems whatsoever and very comfortable to use. I got mine for $12 on Amazon about a year ago.

Personally I cannot stand xbox controllers. I've used playstation controllers since the first playstation, and they perfectly fit my hands and all the button placements make sense.

Xbox controllers are far too big for my hands, the analog sticks are diagonal for some god-forsaken reason, and I personally could never be comfortable playing with them, which is why I still use my PS3 controller for PC gaming when a controller is required.

I am also used to the PS3 configuration, so I got a Logitech F310 (no diagonal sticks).

Parallel sticks and a smaller size (It appears), I like that. The only things that really bothers me about it now is the fact that the buttons on the right don't match my playstation controller and it has bumpers instead of R1 and R2 =P But that is a good controller from what I can tell. It knocks the major kinks i have with the xbox controller out of the way. If my 2 PS3 controllers ever break completely I'll have to keep this one in mind, thanks for showing it to me =)

You're welcome! They're also really cheap because they're a bit older-- there are newer models with the same button config. When you use a PS3 controller, is it a problem mapping the PC/Xbox letters/buttons to the PS3? The games usually refer to things with the PC letters. "Click B to evade" "Where the heck is B?"

Yeah I tend to have that problem =P but the only games I use a controller for are the soul series, which I've played demon's souls on PS3, meaning I already know the controls for that, and the souls games have never changed their controls yet.

I use my PS3 controller for PC with that fan-made 360 emulator. It works flawlessly and suits me well since I am used to PS controllers size and grip and I already had it from the console anyway.

Xbox One controller, since Xbox 360 has an awful Dpad, these have native support, you can also get PS3 or PS4 controller from Sony, with some drivers DS3/DS4 tool they will act as Xbox controller, PC will see them as such.

Personally I recommend the Xbox One, very good and a big improvement from previous, you can find Xbox One controller at pretty decent price at same price as wireless 360, depending where you live.

What games are you intending to play? If you intend to play games where you use the D-pad a lot, then don't go for the xbox 360 controller, but if a crummy D-pad is not a big concern and you want to play mostly 3D games, then the 360 controller is a good choice.
If you're on a budget and intend to play games that are D-pad heavy, I guess the Logitech F310 is a good choice. I'm using its bigger brother, the F710 and I'm quite happy with it (though the back shoulder buttons (triggers) are not great)

I like my F710 Logitech Controller :) wireless, has Playstation layout, but XBOX Button colors and symbols, good quality, not as light as many other controllers and most of all: Has 2 modes- XBOX input (then the F710 is an XBOX Controller) or direct input (if the games do not support XBOX Controller, the controller puts in raw buttons which makes it able to use in pretty much every game)

Or you are one of the cool kids and wait for Gabens Controller.

I use the Logitech F310.
It's literally a Dualshock-style controller with 360 buttons.
I really like it! It doesn't have vibration (I didn't care for it) but I think F510 (+5€) has.

The problem is there is no reliable controller under 35€. Otherwise, you should have to buy a fake 360 controller for 20€ (unreliable) or a second hand original one (probably 10-30€ is the price range).
The fact is Logitech Controllers have the XInput - Direct Input switch. It means that in DInput mode you can configure the controller to work even with games that don't support it. In Xinput it will just emulate 360 controls.

I live in Italy, bought the controller on Ebay from a German shop, all the prices I listed are from Ebay (I looked for a controller half a year ago).
Prices on Amazon that I used to find were higher for every single controller.

Shoulder buttons of that F310 aren't good. I am having cramp all the time because of those darned buttons.

Yeah, there are problems with it, but I find it really good anyway.
I hate the two triggers and the fact that MODE and BACK have the same shape (kept messing up when I was playing Outland) but I find the controller itself overall comfortable.

Also, I hoped the Logitech button in the middle could be programmed to open up the Steam Overlay or trigger Big Picture mode or... whatever, even open Steam alone. Instead it's a useless button that does literally nothing. It's not even mentioned as a button in the instruction manual.

After all, by the way, I think their controllers have a really high quality compared to their price.
Probably I just like too much the D-X switch, that's all.

For twenty Euros… try to get some Logitech and pray it doesn't fall apart in a year or so. The X360 one costs about twice as much, and the Xbone one even more.

I just upgraded to an XBOX ONE controller and it's great! Far better than the 360 controller, and I like it more than my PS3 controller, which I usually have to use a third party app for.

i use a wireless speedlink torid, simple, easy to use, light, battery lasts long (up to 12-14h) and fits perfectly in hand if you dont mind a xbox layout for a ps3/pc controller :)
also its in the price range you want ;)

if you use it for emulation or fighting games you'll really want a good D-pad. The logitech F310 is inexpensive and very solid overall. I've got 3 of them.

I use a Logitech F310. There are two other versions, the F510 and the F710. The 510 has vibration and the 710 has vibration and is wireless. I don't care about either of those features.

I can typically find a refurbished F310 (as in, one that was sent back and repaired because of a manufacturing defect, so you actually know for sure it works, unlike the guy who paid retail and had to send it back; they have to cut the price because people are stupid and don't realize they're actually getting a better quality product precisely because it didn't turn out right the first time) for about 16 or 17 US dollars with free shipping. I just replaced mine a few weeks ago after the one I had for about two years finally had one of the trigger buttons start glitching. The stick pads had been worn smooth.

They also feature a switch on the back that lets you toggle between DirectInput and XInput, so it will work with any game that has native controller support at all. The buttons use the XYAB layout familiar to XBox users, but the sticks are symmetrically placed like on PS controllers.

Actual XBox controllers may be more durable, and maybe the extra expense would be justified in the long term as I went through fewer controllers, but they have more limited functionality and, frankly, I hate their design, so this is all I use.
