Hell yea! Now to farm some trading cards, sell em, and then pick this bad boy up. Or wait for a steam sale. Not sure.

I think he means selling other cards to raise enough funds for buying Elite..He must have a lot of cards to sell

spending 50€ raised from cards, what a waste of money, when you can wait and buy for a way cheaper.

I have never been good at trading so unless you can tell me how to trade cards to get this, I am just gonna sell the cards.

Well that's a site.. Once I am done getting the cards I am gonna have like 400+ of the bloody things. Do you really think I can get a copy of Elite Dangerous?

I am not even sure what a fair trade would be? 0_0

No one is going to trade a newly launched expensive game for a mess of cards.

You would be lucky to get $30 for all 400 cards if you sold them on the market

I have over 6k cards and they are only worth ~$550 if I sold on the market

I came here to chastise you for posting an Aprils Fools thread after the 1st. But I checked Steam first and now I'm genuinely excited. Thanks for the good news!

You are welcome. It does make it easier to get (For me at least, I prefer steam for my games) and of course STEAM SALES!

I'm the same way. I have a bad habit of generally only playing games I can obtain on Steam. It took my friend a good deal of effort to convince me to play League of Legends. I was like "but Dota 2 is on Steam." It's just convenient to have my games in one place where it's easy to download and update them amidst other features (join friends, screenshot sharing, etc,). It seems other people find that weird.

So? It's been released for months. How does it releasing on steam change anything if you personally already knew about the game? The only change is now you can download a launcher on straight from a different launcher lol.

Steam Sales. STEAM SALES.

Eh. Well maybe the day I see a steam sale that a digital distribution site hasn't beat, I'll understand. I've been waiting for that day for years and it hasn't come yet.

Regardless, hope you end up getting the game =P maybe I'll see you flying around.

And buy it with Steam wallet funds...

Yay!

Am i simply unaware of how that may be different than money?

Other than the fact that it is a limited asset rather than one you can spend on any whim? Seems more like a negative thing to me than something to yay about.

Nope. Some card selling and a little TF2 item trading means cheaper/free games.

That's how :)

Oh. Well I don't play TF2 so I could never empathize.

That's alright. It's just a nice discount for those who do sell cards and TF2 items - particularly those who managed to pick up a cheap copy from a Chinese buddy before the region lock kicked in.

Ahem....

From a functional perspective, it doesn't really matter to me whether its on Steam or another service (although its nice to keep my digital purchases gathered together). But I do like having the game be on Steam for the purposes of having it on my wishlist so I can watch the sale prices more easily.

Besides, like you, I like having the option to spend Steam Wallet funds on it. I slowly rebuild my nest-egg between Steam Seasonal Sales and all things being equal, I'd rather spend that money on things than an out-of-pocket purchase.

The original Elite was my favourite game of all time until Dangerous was released, I have been playing it since beta last year. It is a great game and continues to improve with requested and planned features. The recent 'Wings' update felt like a brand new game in places. Add me in-game if you buy it, my Commander name is 'Emuholic', I may drop some cargo as a welcome gift to get you started ;)

People, please stop shitting on the OP's parade. I have never wanted to spend $60 on a game until now, so I completely understand. From one space pilot to another (former X-Wing VS TIE Fighter Week of War Winner 1997 here), I've got your wing.

the steam release sucks, until old customers get steam keys (which Frontier currently decides...).

did they say old customers would get steam keys at all ?

no. they first said they don't have any plans to give out steam keys. then - after many people complained - they changed that to "we will look into it". after a week of waiting, they said "we need a few weeks to decide, and it's not 100% out decision". whatever that means. they also said it wouldn't be free for them. we know valve gives them an unlimited amount of steam keys...

so i am happy if any of you take a minute and post there something like "we want keys". the more people post there, the better.

For those who care, I'm noticing (2 weeks after the official statement) that they finally decided to give Steam keys to any buyer from their store or early backer. Keys are available since yesterday, I got mine a few minutes ago. More info: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=148965
