Duolingo works for that, if you have good English, Italian, Portuguese or Spanish skills.

damn it's actually good but the difficulty level is low to say the least. Any way to crank it up?

You can test out the early stuff to reach the later stuff quicker.

I would try to find a good workbook, that is ordered by topic (e.g. one chapter for animals).

At least I can recommend this online dictionary:
http://www.leo.org/

I think it has a "trainer" for the vocabulary, but I'm not sure how well it works. You might find some other links there aswell.

imagine, everybody would think like that...
...why should a German learn english?
...why should any of the spanish speaking people learn english?
...why should the Chinese learn english?

well i am a german native speaker and there is practically no use for the language outside germany/austria/swiss

if i'd have to choose a foreign language i'd pick something with a bit more global impact like english, spanish or chinese

a good reason would be, someone wants to study at one of the german univeritys?
they aren´t that bad, but they don´t teach in english, right?

well, depends on what you want to study. but yes, in that case its a good reason. universitys are pretty good.

computer science has typically up to 70% of courses in english

Not really. I'm also studying computer science in Germany and all of my courses were in German except for one which was a Master seminar. Only the Master courses are in English at my university.

well, on the university where i studied computer science there were plenty of english courses. some switched language every semester, so one could choose between german and english.

well i do not know how its now after the crippling done with the changes to bachelor/master system

I think it's a little different since the diploma is something like the master today. seems like they integrated english courses earlier when you studied

that could be the case...the lectures in the first 2 semesters were also exclusively germean if i remember correctly, perhaps they extended this to the full bachelor part.

depneds on what you study and where. Some do. But i totally agree with you. If Poland was my dream country for whatever reason, and I want to spend a lot of time there, why not? ;D dont get bolzano, seriously;D

btw also german here^^

yeah..if you want to spend more than a few month in an country - learn the language.

if not, do it if you have another good reason ;)

Why do you even live? Actually it wouldn't matter if you would die now or in 70 years. Earth will only last for another 4 billion years and after that everything will be forgotten.

But guess what. Sometimes you can do things just for the fun of it.

well, from a geological perspective it sure does not matter.

well, i can imagine things more fun, but that everyone can descide for him/herself.

thats why i asked...since its not really practical if you do not plan to spend a longer period of time in the country, there might be another reason (be it "just for fun") to learn that language

There are torrents with tens of gigabytes of learning resources, look them up.

I find Memrise to be very useful; it has different courses of which you can pick what you need (verbs, grammar, nouns...) Good luck!
And you can find Schritte books on the torrents, they are really good.

not exactly what you are looking for, but italki.com is a good place to find partners for language exchange (or teachers if you are willing to spend some moneyz).

Try nthuleen.com or Grimm Grammar, that sounds like the kinda thing you're looking for.

That Grimm site looks fun and is also fun to read (I just took a glance at the character page)

However, there are some mistakes in the German sentences and some senteces aren't even translated or aren't translated completely.
