Anyone else ever been steam scammed? Trade scammed? Just happened to me. Guy pretending to be a reputable trader scammed me out of a code (Got it for free so no money lost) but at least I learned a bit today about safe trading.

When I had low rep someone offered a tradeable game for one of my bundle keys, so I went first and then he ran off with a 20 cent key... I was more baffled that anyone would even bother :P

that is kind of funny but actually might be smart not that i would waste time doing it

but my theory is that it is only a 20 cent key but if you get hundreds of them that way it does add up

and the chances of someone going through a lot trouble to get 20 cents back is low

but none the less it made me laugh and realize some people will take anything that has value

Happens to almost everyone once. Just feel fortunate yours was a freebie, that's really the best learning situation you could hope for.

I lost $30 to a guy on another trading website who actually WAS an established trader, but ran into a bad streak gambling on the website and disappeared with my stuff to pay his debt off so he could keep betting. Got my stuff back eventually thanks to carefully logged screenshots getting him banned til the debt was repaid (which makes me crazy lucky), but was still a sucky time.

No. But that's probably because I don't trade.

Once I traded a steam gift to a guy who bought me Antichamber on the Humble Store after it was released. A month later he refunded the money on Paypal and Antichamber was removed from my account.

A few months later it Antichamber ended up in a Humble Bundle so I picked it back up then.

Nope, only adding via ST profile (or if I accepted invite I immediately check if the account url equals the one in ST) + ofc steamrep. Up till now works like a charm.

No, never.
Over 100 trades done, with tf2keys, gifts, paypal and serial codes.
I go first regularly on my trades if needed so and that also never was any problem.

Only 3 rules I followed from the start:

  • every time you want to trade, check the steamtrades rep profile for the steamprofile link, to verify the person you want to trade with is really the one from the steamtrades profile.
  • serial codes always first
  • only trade with people which have already a few positive reps older than 2-3 months and no negatives on their steamtrades profile. (prefer people with many +reps)

I'm sorry you got scammed, but at least it was nothing you paid money for.

Nope. Not yet, at least. I've done most of my trading through reddit and the steam forums. I'm new here, and it seems pretty good.

OP, if you'd like, I can give you a free WAKFU key.

Never been scammed but a guy gave me a negative review just because I've declined a low trade offer on Steam (you can directly send your trade offer through Steam). That pissed me off. I feel dirty.

One guy wanted to buy him the game, he said he will give the cash back with PayPal. Sent fake pic as a proof of sending money(bookmarked link to the site about editing pictures on his web browser...), he wrote many things about bad scammers that ruined his life, he even called me on Steam and was talking directly to me... Cause he wanted the game right now cause he sent the money and need the game for some let's plays with friend who can't wait... 3 hours of begging. I finally gave him the game, it was cheap anyway and he looks to me like a loser who needed this to make his life better. I was a soft touch, but it won't happen again...

Before I came here, I would occasionally send physical games to people, and do some trades that way. Someone knew I was looking for Phantom Brave on PSP, so they offered it to me in exchange for Final Fantasy X International (PS2) and Breath of Fire 3 (PSP), both games I didn't really care for at the time (already put over 200 hours in FFX and BoF3 just wasn't fun). After sending my package and getting confirmation they received the games, I got nothing but excuses.

Steam gifts for TF2 are actually worth quite a bit iirc.

Yes. Dumbass me had never traded before so he insisted I go first with X amount of TF2 keys in return for a code for Arkham Origins. I sent the keys, immediately he was "disconnected" and Steam basically told me to fuck off and it was tough shit, (OK, not in those EXACT words, but they probably should have gone with that instead of the slimy, "professional", creepy way they said it).

I've never been scammed, but there certainly have been people who tried to scam me. One guy renamed a sandvich "BUDS". I'm not sure who he thought he would be able to scam with that, but I did get him labelled as scammer on steamrep.

In another instance, someone thought that I was scamming. They had a key and I had a gift. They went first, I used the key and everything activated okay. Then Steam decided to restart to update itself. Horrible timing.
