Most of those games are certainly good quality, but have been bundled often, so I were only missing 5 out of 40. Also most of the remaining ones, being so common, have a low exchange value (many are like 20-50 cents on keyshops), and I believe I'll have a hard time bartering them. :|
Comment has been collapsed.
Oh, I see. I was guessing you already owned a large part. 😅 What about giveaways? :o
Comment has been collapsed.
Just dont. 90% of them are keys they cant sell otherwise. Even if you supposedly get "$19.99 game" its probably sold often below $1 or given away via their "buy with $15 and get free game".
Just browse "below $5" and buy stuff around $1. You get a choice and you might get quality.
That said, I bought one because I cant help myself.
It was "Super Night Riders" ( https://youtu.be/XEl01buKqm0?t=9 ). Yeah, think I learned my lesson there.
Comment has been collapsed.
Super Night Riders has almost 200 reviews and a "very positive" average evaluation. Doesn't look that bad to me, considering that with 20-games bundles, the average price for a game is usually around 0.75€.
Of course it depends on which kind of gamer/collector/trader you are, but that applies to other bundles too
Comment has been collapsed.
200 reviews for 9 year old game doesnt really sound that great to me - personally. Maybe im overly rude tho.
HL at 0,99€ so thats "ok i guess".
Just really not for me.
Even at 0.75€ you can pick up decent games without gamble junk. Or just get some 3€ game that can give you AAA experience if you dont mind 10 year old games..I guess
Comment has been collapsed.
Considerations about game quality are highly subjective, but you don't find a huge amount of games with that amount of reviews and rating. I wouldn't know how to quickly get exact numbers, but I'd say it's probably in the top 3% games on Steam.
Your second observation also is very reasonable, but subjective too. For someone who likes collecting games, and takes the time barter the ones they already own, mystery bundles can be worth it, since some of those games have considerably higher prices on the store or keyshops
Comment has been collapsed.
Usually you end up with one or two decent games and a bunch of junk. And the decent games are usually already bundled so good chance you already own them if you're library is big enough. Not bad for creating giveaways but money is better spent elsewhere if you are trying to find a game you will enjoy playing. It's a gamble, hence the slot machine in the title of this thread.
The argument against mystery bundle threads is they were way more effort to compile the list of reported games and the list isn't even that useful. People can discuss/brag/complain about what they got in the comments but I'm not going to make a gigantic list of games that somebody might get if they buy this bundle.
Comment has been collapsed.
I wasn't questioning the choice of not creating threads for mystery bundles, but the widespread opinion that such bundles are "trash" and aren't worth buying.
For one, I believe that what "junk" is, is highly subjective. I find most of the bundled games enjoyable, except maybe a tiny portion which are often the few profile-limited ones. Also for someone who like collecting games, mystery bundles can be useful.
By the way, the other kinds of bundles often include games of the same quality, but sometimes at a considerably higher average price. As an example, consider "Nephilim Resurrection", which was bundled today in the Ruthless Bundle, and goes for at least 2.40€. It has 3 reviews only and is profile-limited. You rarely find AAA-games, or their likes, in other bundles too. Maybe the closest to that are Killer Bundles.
To me, and many other users I know, the main issue with mystery bundle is that many games are often included, and have become very common, so it's hard to find people to barter them with. By the same token, they've become very cheap on keyshops, and their trading value has declined considerably. Notwithstanding this, I still buy at least a couple of mystery bundles when they have a 20-games version.
Comment has been collapsed.
Hey! Long time no see! :) But to stay on topic, this kind of bundle is only good if you are starting trading, because then you can switch one or more for games that you actually want to play. But people need to remember, that unplayed games no matter the cost are the most expensive ones. 19 games pack is 16.29€ (weirdly there is no 20-pack option for me) For that price, you can buy for example Red Dead Redemption 2. Is it better to own 20 random games that you probably will never play or own 1 game that you'll play over 100 hours?
Comment has been collapsed.
Hi Hallak, long time no see indeed!
You know that I'm collector-minded, so I'll take quantity over quality. xD Indeed we were able to do some large trades thanks to this difference in perspective. Also I'm planning to try out all the games in my library even if for only 1 hour each, and the hundreds of videos on my channel are witness to that. About Red Dead Redemption 2, I was able to play that too, it was on PS Plus though ;)
Comment has been collapsed.
I know I know, collectors are different animals xD. I don't personally attack you because I'm the same :P and rdr2 is just an example. I only have a little bit fewer than 3k unplayed games and I played 100 games last year (and that's me trying to play my backlog more actively). So at this rate, that's 30 years for me :D. In your case, if you play 1 game every day, that's 27 years too, if you only play those that you have and not demos of games that you don't xD. We are doomed xD

LOL, and there used to be times, when 30 cents per game was expensive for me and i better skipped that cause there were simply better cheaper bundles in those years (and yet with surprisely good games inside). :)
BTW, Witchaven not OK at all- that became mediocre, some says even pure trash, instantly after launch in 90s, today horrible very badly playable DOS FPS only for collectors of weird games. Same note about TES Redguard, pure trash with just TES trademark, collectors still love that, lol.
Only good games i see here are Tropico 3 (modern classic, still good banana republic builder simulator), for some people maybe Cook, Serve, Delicious! 2!, both fun games, both milion times bundled.

Their new "Win a Steam Deck OLED" promotion seems very sus to me. No option to enter without purchase, and they are almost certainly not a registered lottery in the UK where their business is registered (and if they somehow were they would still need to indicate this on the website alongside their registration number.) Have Fanatical finally crossed the line into illegal gambling?
Comment has been collapsed.
You are buying 1-20 random items, and you have a chance to get any item in the pool. I don't see how one of the items being a Steam Deck makes this different from any of their other mystery bundles. It is always a "gamble" that you hope to get something you want from the mystery bundles, but you always get the number of items you pay for. I assume that's why it's not legally considered gambling.
Comment has been collapsed.
According to the terms and conditions, it's a limited time giveaway where each purchase counts as an entry into the giveaway. The OLED is not being added to the regular pool of items available, there is only one OLED and the winner will be selected via a random drawing on a set date. This meets all the criteria for a raffle under UK law, and under UK law, unlicensed non-charitable raffles are only legal if confined to a physical brick and mortar business. If they're conducted over the internet, the proceeds are not going to charity, and you must purchase an item to gain entry into the giveaway, they constitute gambling and must have a license to be legal.
The only way to get around this, and this is what most businesses in the UK do (and other countries with similar restrictions), is to allow for participation without purchase, typically through sending in a postcard or letter with your name and address on it. That would turn it from an illegal lottery into a legal promotion.

I think the only time I got something really good out of mystery packs or bundles was when I got Dark Souls 3 from Green Man Gaming Mystery Bundle a couple of years ago, when the game was kind of new. Got it from the single key pack. Felt like winning the lottery. xD

Are all keys in these mystery bundles region free? Not sure how to check the region restrictions on them.
Comment has been collapsed.
I would check the Fanatical store page for the game(s) in question. Below the "Add to cart" button it will say whether it activates in your region. Next to that there is a "View all" button to see other regions where the key will activate. I click on the first country in the list (Afghanistan) and hold the down arrow to quickly scroll through all the countries. If I see a red mark, I will scroll back to see what country/countries are excluded.
Comment has been collapsed.
cross checking fanatical store page and steamDB is only way, most will have no region locks but not all
I would assume anything with a PRC restriction(this one is pretty much always true if there is a PRC locked sub) or tier 1 country restriction is the one you got.
