I'll be honest, at first i didn't like this feature because it would allow Scammers to check the won gifts panel at the bottom and could fake their account to look like the winner and therefor try to scam the game, yes they could just click the game instead of the profile, except for Private gifts.

While this also allow people to fake profiles to private gifts as well, there's a catch which will allow to spot fake Gifters, which will build "value" on their profile without actually gifting anything.

Let's see an example.

Clicking on a guy's profile that won a private giveaway: http://www.steamgifts.com/user/Teamdead/won

He won a gift, the gift has a single entry. This could be OK for some people as it could be a friend's gift, but that could be done outside SG, which means they could be building "value" on their profile, but that's not the problem. The gifter has 100% and the gift wasn't delivered (as it's not on the winner's profile), gifter: http://www.steamgifts.com/user/Kilerkadzoo

However, here comes the catch. With this new feature, like i previously said, we can spot fake gifters by looking at the gift won by the winner.

Going to the winner's profile on Steam, there's no Human Revolution. Yes, it means what you're thinking (i hope).

Translating

Click on a profile of someone that won a private giveaway, check the gift. If it's received check the winner's profile if the game is there.

If it's not you know what to do: http://www.steamgifts.com/forum/ecgrS/sgiftsreportsgmailcom-report-sitescammeruser-related-issues/page/31337

Thanks and good hunting! =)

I do believe that some things may be obvious, but it's good to not start accusing anyone before we can be certain of their fraud.

I love this feature coz I like stats, that's all. For example what I get from this feature is that if I see someone with fewer entries than I have but with more wins, if those entries where in private giveaways I don't feel that unlucky anymore :P

Except that he marked the gift as received and the gift is not on his games list. And he was also online after the giveaway has ended, which means that when he marked as won he should have also received the gift, which he didn't.

You could already do that by looking at the left bottom of the front page.

  1. This case you describe might be obvious. I just hope that people won't find another reason to go witch hunting ;)

  2. I don't see how I could see that someone with 100 entries and 4 wins had all 4 wins in private giveaways...

2: By looking at the winner's profile you can then go to his Steam page and check if he has the won the gift on his games. However the profile page of SG is still missing something that helps here, which is Gifts received under Gifts won. Anyway i think this new feature helps in fraudulent Private gifts.

You can't enter into a giveaway for a game you already have. So someone who has Portal 2 wouldn't even be able to enter into a Portal 2 giveaway.

What if you have the link to the giveaway? Can't you enter it?

Why does it matter if people gift each other over and over with private giveaways? Isn't it just a waste of time? I think I'm misunderstanding the issue here.

It matters because he didn't give anything. Therefor they're just getting value in their profile which allows them to enter certain groups that require X amount of money spent on gifts. Where those groups are easier to get gifts and they're very limited.

I'm sorry but this is not right.
