There is some guy inviting me to chats, multiple times already, chats like "Free Games - it's possible", "Giveaways....", etc always the same guy, I can see the name but I can't find his Steam profile to report him because Steam members search is just useless, how can I stop ppl inviting me to chats that seem phishy? He is not even on my friends list. When he invites me I can see it in the right down corner of my screen, but if I click it doesn't open his Steam profile.

checked the ID and I remember that I've also got invites from this guy, some days ago. after his 3th invite i went a bit aggro and told him via chat to stop. since this, I've got no invite again. I don't remember the group name, but I am sure that I am not a member of it.

As long as you don't click on anything that they post, it should be ok.

They can't know your IP by doing that?

They are legit Steam chat rooms. To do that I think they would have to hack or be on the inside of Steam community itself, and try to inject something to track you. As said, don't click any links, and you should be okay with Steam components.

On the steam chat, next to his name, should be a tiny arrow, click on it and a drop down menu should appear. There should be an option called block all communication. Click on it and follow through and the player should be blocked from communicating you. Hopefully this helps :)

I don't think there is any problem with joining the chat... i joined one of them just because i wanted to block him and had no problem since after.

The group got whacked, and I hope the creator is too.

Posting the link to the group won't be considered calling out no? But I don't have it anyways.

I have the same problem. Its no one that I'm friends with, and it doesn't identify any group that I'm part of. And I don't think I've ever seen the same person or title twice.

I've found the user that's sending me group chat invitations in one of groups I'm member of. That might be the reason why I got few phish friend invites, too. Oh well.

Easiest way to avoid annoying invites and event notices, is to turn chat to offline. Just the chat, everything else about Steam still in online mode.

A new generation of phishing / scamming has BEGUN! Anyway just report the group and the inviter like you'd do with link scammers.

1) Receive random friend invite from stranger.
2) Check to see if said stranger left an explanation on my Steam wall.
3) Click on "Ignore" when there turns out to be nothing written on my Steam wall.

This wasn't a friend request, but a group chat request. We had Accept or Cancel. Can't even get his profile link without accepting.

In that case, "Cancel" is the correct response. If he (or she) isn't willing to introduce him or herself to you, then why should you be bothered to accept?

But can't block them then. They would just repeat it. I blocked the user and the other support members of the group.

I got the same thing a few days ago. The problem was it was multiple different people inviting me so even if I did block them another person would just invite me instead. It is very annoying but it seemed to stop the next day and I havn't seen it since. So I guess just put up with it for a little bit and it will stop.
