Got a bit of money left over... so uhh help?

To help me decide, I love more modern open-world games with a lot of replayability, and also FPS games. So you get the kinda guy I am. Guns and cars.
But, I've heard a lot about MGSV and Witcher 3 which makes me confused as to which game I should get.

The real issue is, The Borderlands, MGSV, Witcher and SuperHot sales end on 13 December and GTAIV on 20 December, which I suppose is before the Winter sale starts, and I have no idea what to expect during the Winter sale. Maybe a game I want more than those I mentioned?

The two things to consider are -

  1. Enjoyability (from your perspective and also an estimate of how much I would enjoy it, based on my preferences),
  2. And whether the Winter Sale will have great deals (you could tell me some of the examples of last year's Winter Sale which you thought were incredible deals or which are great open-worlds with guns and cars).

Thanks in advance!

And a lame GA because you actually cared to click on the topic (thanks) https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/X9a5a/beat-hazard

(Obviously) Have the first Witcher, and considering the protagonist is the same in al three games (I think) I suppose starting ith the first game would be the right choice. Thanks!

While the first Witcher is usually (and rightfully) bashed for its gameplay, it's actually pretty neat in the story department already (although not as brilliant as the next two games). As for the second game, I actually love it as much as the third one, it's absolutely on par with it when it comes to writing, and it's much more focused (not being an open-world game and stuff). You absolutely should play it twice: you make a choice at the end of the first chapter, and depending on it the rest of the game presents you with two very different and equally outstanding narratives. I'm writing this simply because everybody are usually in love with Witcher 3 and forget about how brilliant its predecessor is.

I assume these were on a big sale last year? Have 3, but not 4 or 76.

Well, yes they have been, but anyway those are my suggestions... Ofcourse there are always Mass Effects! :D

Mass Effect sounds pretty good too. Thanks for the suggestions!

The Mass Effect Trilogy is an amazing story driven RPG. But it is not open world. There is a lot of walking around talking to NPCs and getting quests/side-quests.
You can play it as a 3rd person shooter but neglecting your special abilites aka powers is like crippling yourself during combat.
Maybe watch the first few episodes of a recent playthrough to see if you could enjoy playing it.
Edit: Witcher 3 is basically the same. I played Witcher 1 a bit ages ago but found the combat annoying. Played through Witcher 3 much later on the Xbox One and really enjoyed it for Geralt, his friends and the whole world-building.

Well, you can never go wrong with Witcher 3.

I have never played any Witcher or MGS before those two, and I can tell you Witcher 3 is now my favourite game and MGS V is an amazing game. I've spent a total of 300 hours on them (180+120). They are great games.

Playing Witcher 3 now and its a lotta fun.

Having said that, Cyberpunk 2077 sounds like it ticks all the boxes you're looking for.

Yep (except the bugs, but hoping that's fixed by now). Problem is, it being a new title, it's a lot over-budget lmao.

The Witcher 3 is probably around it's lowest ever price. Don't know about the other games.

As a huge backlog owner I decide whether to buy a new game by asking myself: am I going to play it right away? You can ask yourself the same question and if you're going to enjoy it right away, just buy it. And if not, wait for the sale.

I only played Superhot MCD and liked the first one more. The pseudo-roguelite mechanics were nice, but the story was very... pretentious for lack of a better word (and not in the same way SH1 was) and lategame was very tedious. If you want a good FPS, go for DUSK or Ultrakill definitely - unhappily can't speak about the cars part, never enjoyed them

Yeah, new blood really good at putting out bangers. m thinking of picking up Ultrakill when it goes on sale, but I'm pretty sure even then I'll have a dilemma...

Every platform and every retail store has its sale just around the corner. ITAD and gg.deals aggregate the best offers of all of them so it's easy to pick the best offers.
As nobody mentioned it yet what about RDR2? Seems right up your alley.

Thanks for the suggestions! And RDR2...I've heard great things about it but I don't know if I'd look at the game and think of playing it right away. Like I said before, modern open-worlds like Watch Dogs or GTA interest me more.

Wait for the Winter sale. As much as it might be easy to buy them now in the winter sale it would be a lot more to choose from and a lot more options when it comes to prices. So wait for the sale and see what you might be getting from there. The same games you are looking right now might be cheaper (probably not, but its possible).

In any case, you should wait until the winter sale.

Alright so I did a bit of searching, looking at deals for the 2020 Winter Sale and I only found a few that I'm actually interested in. Deus Ex was pretty cheap, so were games like Battletech, Titanfall 2, etc. But if the games I just mentioned are going to be cheap in this sale then I'll wait. Thanks to all of you who voted and commented.

Played all GTA games (all handheld spin-offs too), some of them many times, and honestly only one game I was abandoned and never completed is GTA IV. Don't like controls and camera, they just as much uncomfortable as it can be. (Completed both add-ons, because they short). So maybe wait for winter sale and I'm sure some games will break historical low and you pick something else. Witcher, maybe? Never played it, but already bought to try...

GTA IV is widely regarded as the best in the series so I'm surprised I haven't heard many people criticize it about the camera and controls.

It's funny, but I never heard that this is one of the best :) Mostly critics that the game was the most gloomy, joyless, mostly about death and betrayal, and there is no such cheerful mood as before and after. even the Ballad of Gay Tony was specially made to bring the tone of the series back on track (and this one i really recommend to play as alternative to the main game, it is much shorter, but more fun and you can taste all game gimmics and mechanics). But maybe we just remember that opinions that we want to hear!
But i tried controls himself (gamepad and pc version), and oh boy, it hurts, but after you grab the bike it hurts sooooo painfully.

Don't listen to fanboys, Witcher 3 is great, but if you like modernity/ guns+cars go with GTA4, it is awesome. And if you like Watchdogs....well GTA is much better than any of Ubisoft crap. It still looks good, it got really cool semi-realistic car physics and a solid engaging story and you won't find the world as alive and as nuanced as in rockstar games....you won't, don't mind if witcher's fans say otherwise. Also I would recommend ballad of gay Tony DLC as a must, it's consist of best parts of what makes GTA great and lack some BS. If you like shooting, superhot is a no-brainer....but it's short. A great and maybe better alternative to MSG is the new Hitman. And if you would gonna look for some knight and sword game I would recommend Kingdomecome Deliverance over Witcher any day.

And always wait for sale...Chinese new year might have even better deals.

Thanks for the suggestions! Yeah, Ubisoft has lost their edge, and they only make exclusively decent games now.
