What is your favorite CRPG?
Can't really pick a favorite.
Fallout, Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights (+all its add-ons), Divinity: Original Sin, The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind (+all its add-ons) ...
Half of my gaming life revolves around cRPGs.
It's not about the gameplay or the graphics. It's about the story and the characters. It's about living more lives than one could have imagined.

I have a bit of a wide interest when it comes to games, but I find myself more immersed in CRPGs than anything else. Though, I can't even say that I have a favorite one, because the great ones are pretty much equally amazing. I think Baldur's Gate, Neverwinter Nights, Morrowind, Wizardry VIII, and probably even a few others would all be tied for first. =P They are all great in their own ways.

Dragon Age: Origins.
I usually feel moved by games' stories for a day or two before completely forgetting about them. That game is among the only ones to have made a lasting impact on me. Truly a masterpiece.
Got the second, couldn't even finish it :( I just hope Inquisition won't disappoint me when I finally do get around to getting it...

I missed out on what seems to be the "golden age" of CRPGs. I played MUDs in the mid-to-late 1990s, and didn't have my own PC until 2002, and all I really played for years was Diablo II, World of Warcraft, and Runes of Magic (F2P MMO). I actually tried the original NWN but for some reason it never grabbed me enough to persevere getting past this one spider that kept killing my party.
But I played lots of the Might and Magic games on my old Mac, and something called Realmz (Mac only). But if Morrowind counts, that's when I got back into PC CRPGs. (Oh and yes, I played the original Infocom Zork).

Good thread folks and congrats to the winners! Gonna keep this open for a day or so then close it up. I got some more games I will be giving away. Thinking about Wasteland 2 and Shadowrun: Hong Kong but no promises :) Keep on gaming!

I love playing all sorts of games. From the exhilaration of escaping Black Mesa in Half-Life to conquering the world in Civilization. Nevertheless CRPGs hold a special place in my heart. I remember playing Ultima II with a friend and being mesmerized by the adventure. Later was sucked in the Pool of Radiance which I never got a chance to finish. Many years passed and as the Internet was being popularized by AOL started to play Gemstone. Gamstone is a MUD type game which I played for two years but in the end the repetition of any MMO type game is boring to me. Later I discovered Fallout, Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex and Baldur's Gate. These kind of games drawn me in with their stories and interesting characters. Unlike a FPS, the pace of an CRPG is your own. You can linger in the story, delve into it and spend more time with your favorite characters more so than you would in the best run and gun FPS.
In recent times first person and third person CRPGs are all the rage. I understand why they are popular. Such a perspective puts you right in the middle of the story and for that matter, the action in a very intimate way. Still I miss the old school isometric perspective. There is something almost Godlike about viewing your party of heroes making their way in the world from this view. You are the chessmaster moving pieces strategically to outwit your opponent. That's why I recently added the best of both worlds to my ever growing collection of games.
I decided to pick up an extra copy of each to give away at Steamgifts. Although I am busy currently exploring the Mojave wasteland I figured someone might be craving a good CRPG to sink their teeth into. I present to you for your GA entering pleasure Pillars of Eternity and Dragon Age - Origins Ultimate Edition.
Keep on gaming!
I bet kids are like, "Wtf is Zork, bro" :D
Just when you thought you were out they pull you back in! Shadowrun: Hong Kong for your GA entering pleasure. I really should stop getting these games but I'm having too much fun. Tehehe!
