What is your favorite CRPG?
Nice mix :) thanks for the opportunities
Also.. didnt go with any of the options above... if we can count JRPG then i have played a fair few in both console and pc and i love them, and... isn't Zork that text adventure game?

Fallout and Baldur's Gate. I can't choose only one.

Zork never held my attention, even back in the day, but the other four are in my list of favorites. The rest in the Baldur's Gate/Icewind Dale series were excellent as well, as was Neverwinter Nights. I pretty much eat all of these up really. I even liked the Dungeon Siege games though, so maybe I'm just weird. Once I veer outside of the CRRP box, I've definitely always steered more towards action RPG than JRPG.

I've heard from others that didn't care for Planescape. I don't claim to understand why but everything is not for everyone.

From Fallout games, liked very much the third one. And played both KOTOR, liked them too.

I don't really know that I HAVE a favorite isometric RPG.
I play so many tactical-RGPs, classic-RPGs, even text-based ones like Zork, it'd be hard picking a favorite from more classic formats.
But my favorite RPG of all time has gotta be Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines.
It's rare to get games where each mission is that poignant to the atmosphere of the universe, where you've so much control of your actions, and where the narrative and atmosphere is so intense. Add in how much you can customize your character [if go in the console to open up that feature], and the multiple clans to have different playthroughs with..
It's dated, and before (still ongoing) fan fixes and updates, it was a pretty buggy mess.
But it's one of those games every RPG fan should play at least once :)

Very nice of you, MuthaFukinRick! I never really played CRPG games growing up, but Pillars of Eternity looks like something I'd like to try.

Know all of the choices. I played 4 of them, only watched a friend playing Zork.
I played a lot cRPGs and quite a few other RPGs too, plus I'm an avid DSA (The Dark Eye) Pen & Paper player. So my interest in cRPGs extends beyond the PC.
Pillars of Eternity is one of just a handful of games on my wishlist and I'd really love to win it. Though if I won't I'll buy it as a christmas present to myself :-)

Wait with PoE. Currently it's in a "developers actively destroying it with rebalance patches until the second/final DLC comes out" phase. Literally cannot make a character build because in a week they change something fundamental. Or break something basic, like accuracy bonus or class abilities. Or quest scripts. Be patient, eventually they stop tinkering with it.

I don't know if I would call a roguelike game a CRPG

Simulators and RPGs are what got me into PC gaming. I got my start with Pool of Radiance and Eye of the Beholder. I kind of missed out on the "golden age" of CRPGs though, when Fallout and Baldur's Gate came out. I graduated high school before Fallout came out and had to work for a few years before going to college. I remember seeing Fallout and Baldur's gate in the store, but I don't remember why I didn't get them. I might have been broke or bought another game, I don't remember. I did play Deus Ex though. A friend of mine bought it, played it, then told me I had to play it. I traded some other games with him for it and pretty much played it every spare minute I had, even some I didn't when I should have been studying instead.
Thanks to GOG I'm making up for that lost time. I bought Fallout and Fallout 2 as soon as GOG opened for business. Then I bought Arcanum, Baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Neverwinter Nights, Planescape, etc., but I haven't gotten around to playing all of them yet.

I love playing all sorts of games. From the exhilaration of escaping Black Mesa in Half-Life to conquering the world in Civilization. Nevertheless CRPGs hold a special place in my heart. I remember playing Ultima II with a friend and being mesmerized by the adventure. Later was sucked in the Pool of Radiance which I never got a chance to finish. Many years passed and as the Internet was being popularized by AOL started to play Gemstone. Gamstone is a MUD type game which I played for two years but in the end the repetition of any MMO type game is boring to me. Later I discovered Fallout, Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex and Baldur's Gate. These kind of games drawn me in with their stories and interesting characters. Unlike a FPS, the pace of an CRPG is your own. You can linger in the story, delve into it and spend more time with your favorite characters more so than you would in the best run and gun FPS.
In recent times first person and third person CRPGs are all the rage. I understand why they are popular. Such a perspective puts you right in the middle of the story and for that matter, the action in a very intimate way. Still I miss the old school isometric perspective. There is something almost Godlike about viewing your party of heroes making their way in the world from this view. You are the chessmaster moving pieces strategically to outwit your opponent. That's why I recently added the best of both worlds to my ever growing collection of games.
I decided to pick up an extra copy of each to give away at Steamgifts. Although I am busy currently exploring the Mojave wasteland I figured someone might be craving a good CRPG to sink their teeth into. I present to you for your GA entering pleasure Pillars of Eternity and Dragon Age - Origins Ultimate Edition.
Keep on gaming!
I bet kids are like, "Wtf is Zork, bro" :D
Just when you thought you were out they pull you back in! Shadowrun: Hong Kong for your GA entering pleasure. I really should stop getting these games but I'm having too much fun. Tehehe!
