What is your favorite CRPG?

I love CRPGs, especially the Infinity Engine ones such as Baldur's Gate (Which is my favorite game of all times) and Icewind Dale.
Oh, and thank you for two awesome giveaways! 0.o

I was QA for Vampire TMB so I am fairly sick of that game. A lot of potential there but I think Activision rush them to put it out before it was fully polished.

First person CRPGs are my favourite, they have that extra layer of immersion that embraces you throughout the game. I still have fond memories of Arx Fatalis because of that.

I loved that magic system. Instead of right-click-right-click-right-click=fireball-fireball-fireball, precisely-draw-these-four-runes-on-the-screen-in-real-time-while-something-is-running-towards-you=one-fireball-if-you-succeed, it added some feeling/tension :-)
also, a bump

Planescape Torment.
At first I wasn't going to elaborate, but as it's currently losing the poll... :P For me,this game comes closest to Narrativism, of all cRPGs I've tried, and (again in my opinion) Narrativism is the highest form of RP. It is set in a beautiful setting (a personal favourite), excellently written and populated with very memorable NPCs. It's an experience. It's not about combat or loot or level ups or number crunching or ticking off quests (In fact the combat/number mechanics are a detriment, rather than a strength of it), it's about its Story and its People and the wonderful, wonderful beliefs and every detail is meaningful and thoughtful and delightfully bizzare. (Fel's tattooes, anyone?) This game will stay with you. It will show you whimsical wonder and delicious, twisted logic - and gleefully let you do what you please with it.
I've played Baldur's Gate and the rest of Infinity Engine greats, Fallout and both KotORs and quite a few other cRPGs. I loved and deeply enjoyed most of them, and gushed over some (Divinity Original Sin comes to mind), but Planescape Torment is still unique for me.

Planescape: Torment holds such a special place of honor in my gaming heart that I don't even want any sequels. I wouldn't mind if it was remastered but I feel they would tarnish its soul if they did. Torment is more than a game, it is an interactive novel with action elements. It is so weird, so unique that I am rarely surprised when other gamers have not heard of it. I feel as though I have been privy to some wonderful secret only known to those who have visited Sigil.

In this poll: most people picking "Fallout", because they have never played any of the others, including any Fallout besides 3/NV (console Fallout)
Own all of these myself, went with KOTOR as I really enjoy SW.

Fallout, Arcanum and other stuff :D And I like dungeoneering as well so I was very happy to see Eye of the beholder get released again on GOG.

Comedy CRPGs are the best! I know I played one but a title doesn't come to mind. Stick of Truth is on my radar but I think it needs to be on my wishlist.

It's a great game but it's more a dungeon crawler than an CRPG

kotor (1 mostly) and planescape, if nothing else because its silly characters and equally silly settings.

I have to admit I am a bit of a graphics snob but sometimes if the story and gameplay is good enough I can look past it.

That's not bad. It seems as if they were aiming for an old school look.

I love playing all sorts of games. From the exhilaration of escaping Black Mesa in Half-Life to conquering the world in Civilization. Nevertheless CRPGs hold a special place in my heart. I remember playing Ultima II with a friend and being mesmerized by the adventure. Later was sucked in the Pool of Radiance which I never got a chance to finish. Many years passed and as the Internet was being popularized by AOL started to play Gemstone. Gamstone is a MUD type game which I played for two years but in the end the repetition of any MMO type game is boring to me. Later I discovered Fallout, Planescape: Torment, Deus Ex and Baldur's Gate. These kind of games drawn me in with their stories and interesting characters. Unlike a FPS, the pace of an CRPG is your own. You can linger in the story, delve into it and spend more time with your favorite characters more so than you would in the best run and gun FPS.
In recent times first person and third person CRPGs are all the rage. I understand why they are popular. Such a perspective puts you right in the middle of the story and for that matter, the action in a very intimate way. Still I miss the old school isometric perspective. There is something almost Godlike about viewing your party of heroes making their way in the world from this view. You are the chessmaster moving pieces strategically to outwit your opponent. That's why I recently added the best of both worlds to my ever growing collection of games.
I decided to pick up an extra copy of each to give away at Steamgifts. Although I am busy currently exploring the Mojave wasteland I figured someone might be craving a good CRPG to sink their teeth into. I present to you for your GA entering pleasure Pillars of Eternity and Dragon Age - Origins Ultimate Edition.
Keep on gaming!
I bet kids are like, "Wtf is Zork, bro" :D
Just when you thought you were out they pull you back in! Shadowrun: Hong Kong for your GA entering pleasure. I really should stop getting these games but I'm having too much fun. Tehehe!
