As far as I understand they didn't fix this yet. If your game is god to go in your Rest of her Word any DLC activated trough VPN works just fine. Enjoy the info. :) It will take a little while for them to add that additional piece of code to every single DLC on STEAM.

I thought dlc's are region locked by default. Work only with version of the game of same region.

So, if you bought other region game, activated before dec 2014 you can still vpn buy dlcs for it. Don't think they will bother to fix that.

Doesn't matter, if your game have no problem running in your region. Region locked DLCs activated trought VPN are working for your game. I think you are right, before fixing that they gonna need to make run-lock for Tier 2 of RoW :)

You're ignoring one fact. DLC check not what your ip is but what region is game you have added to your library. If you bought RU game, ROW dlc wont work with it. Unless im mistaken ofc.

If im right. Only ppl that added RU games to their account before dec 2014 will profit with this "exploit"

i beg to differ :) Adding that code to check you IP for every single DLC will cost Valve and Publishers some cake. Second of all what is you IP have to do with your Game region?

The only way to add run-lock is to make game itself check the all dlcs then ckeck IP, that will cause the game to load longer (depends on how may dlcs the game has). And on top of that run that check every 3-5 minuts of playtime :)

IP is way of steam "knowing" where you live.

Lets say we have game X, its region is RU.

You live in US.

You have to use VPN to both buy and activate game (and play it if you done so after dec 2014 - damn i repeating that a lot).

Game X have dlc. If you buy dlc with region ROW it wont add to your account because X game region is RU.

Hence, exploit is of no consequence for any future VPN shananigans. You ether get all through vpn or none.

Im really feeling our discussion does not connect. Im saying you never could add dlc to game with different region than game itself. You are insisting on steam wanting to check dlc region during play? What for if you cant add that dlc in first place?

Trust me, game activisation was one time check. During the activisation, that is it. It doesn't check anymore(or you wont be abble to play it). That is what they done for run-lock, game checks during the run and while game is running. Previouly activated games don't care for regions. Even if you have Brazilian game activated before the Iron Cuirtain, you can add Russian DLC on it.

This is where you're wrong. Library does remember what was gift region when you added it. There was some console command to display what info is stored on your games, cant remember it tough.

i beg to differ. I saw more than once someone crying he cant buy dlc for his game he got through trade. On other hand stuff changes. Maybe you are right. I sure don't really care. Not for dlc's at least. I will miss splitting RU 4-packs.

why would people encourage people to break the tos of valve? even when valve recently added the warning when you activated the game/dlc. maybe this is the grace period by valve to let people know better not to digitally exploit loopholes. What happens when valve decides the amount of vpn activation is bordering on their tolerance level? they turned a blind eye to the gift tradings until it went out of hand, translation: until rubles went kaput. I don;'t think vpn will be any different.

I get that people tend to get strength in numbers concept, hey everybody's doing it, valve's going to have to ban everyone, they're not gonna do that. I am of the inclination that whoever uses vpn, despite how loud they will be when valve takes action, the numbers won';t be significant compared to the total users of steam.

There is region locked games that have the same ID as ROW games, but also some of them have deferent ID. The DLCs checks as least game ID, so there is no way to works with second type. You need to be careful.

Using VPN for activation is a violation of Steam TOS.
