How come I've never thought of that. I'm just gonna go ahead, skip dinner and see if I can get in one of those gatherings this evening hmm
If it doesnt work out I can still come back here and eat Mr Gaffi ⊱(⁍ ڡ ⁍)⊰

I used to get on people for making SG Premium jokes, but I've seen mods make these same jokes, so apparently it's okay.

I don't watch TV except for sports, Game of Thrones, and selected reality TV. And I don't see many movies either.

I like movies-- don't get me wrong. But TV is free and other than the ones we Tivo off of HBO (for example), movies are not.
And I just don't like TV series these days, I find. Maybe I'm too old.
And Survivor is still a great show, IMO. And I'll watch some other shows like The Bachelor(ette) and Born This Way...and Top Chef from time to time. (insert shrug emoticon)

I must admit that I never got the appeal of reality tv, I don't watch a single format.
I see why producers like them, as you don't need expensive writers or cast. But as a viewer I can find far better entertainment options, even if all I want is to zone out. The general success of reality tv is a painful experience to me. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Comment has been collapsed.
Why is it painful for you-- because you don't like it / don't get it? I guess I can understand, actually. It's like me saying that the success of anime is a painful experience to me....which is kinda true. :) Each to his/her own, though!
But for what it's worth...there's LOTS of "bad" reality TV out there (some of which I might watch occasionally as a guilty pleasure). And even "good" reality TV involves producers manipulating things / people via editing that can send one down the garden path (i.e., "trick" the audience). AND some of the contestants/cast do tend to play up for the cameras. So you have to take everything with a grain of salt. But human behavior is interesting to me...people's stories are interesting to me. And sometimes the subject matter or premise of the show is interesting to me. So I'll watch these. :)

It is painful for multiple reasons. For one, it isn't really "real" at all. Either it is scripted, some shallow temporary fake setup or just a marketing platform.
Another reason is the resulting gossip. I could live pretty well in a world without people talking about the Kardeshians! ;)
But worst of all: Reality tv gets more and more airtime and obviously high enough ratings, to keep that trend alive. And that really pisses me off, considering all the quality products that would deserve some attention instead.

As for the "reality" of it all, see what I wrote above. "Bad" reality TV is largely scripted (at least at a high level, maybe not the details or dialog) e.g. Kardashians, but there is plenty of reality TV that isn't like that. It still might be a contrived situation subject to film editing ("castaways in tribes stranded on an island where they vote off members one at a time"), but that doesn't mean that it's scripted or not real interpersonal interaction. I'm pretty sure that Born This Way (showing the lives of seven adults with Down Syndrome) isn't scripted (though of course they come up with things for them to do and is "contrived" in that sense...but it is their lives).
I guess it strikes me as similar to somebody saying (as they often used to) that computer games are bad because it's about violence and killing, when it turns out that, yeah, there are games like that, but there are a lot of other games out there that aren't.
tl/dr: Not all reality TV is like the Kardashians. :)

...That's all well and good, but have you watched Rick & Morty? :)

No I don't even know what that is...although those two names are vaguely familiar.

Oh wow, well you should definitely check it out then! it's a really great show.
I'd recommend watching "Rick Potion #9" first, as that's the episode that got me into the series (thanks to a post on Reddit), and I think would be the best overall introduction to the show in order to find out if you'll like the rest or not. I think you can find it on Netflix, Hulu, and probably a bunch of other places.

I need to brush up on my Polish. ;)
But yes, thanks. I suppose I should have done the same. TBH I didn't know it would work with animated gifs...not sure why I thought that.

It should go without saying subscribing doesn't increase your chances of winning or give you any other advantage using the site than whats mentioned in the tiers above. :)

I'm sure some SG users will not be sure or aware about what you said and that some toxic people on SG will spread drama, disinformation and lies about what you said. :-)

Well, people don't tend to be content with a warm feeling for long. I'd just say that having more stuff in Tier 3 (or having less stuff in the 2nd tier from the beginning) would incentivize people to become larger donors. That would be for the best. The site gets money, the patrons feel that they've also gotten something in return.

To some extent, yes. I've given away around 600 or so games and most of them were for the fuzzy, warm, feeling.
But what actually got me (and a fair few of my friends who I got into this site and who have already been on this site) into giving was the CV system. Giving away games rewarded you with more giveaways and higher chances of winning.
Yes, now that I'm lvl 7, I don't care much for my CV and I barely check it. But that's mostly because I know I won't be able to even make a dent in it. It's as simple as that. So, yes, I do give for the warm feeling, but many don't and to think otherwise is kind of naive.

+1. That would be preferable to me. I don't need any rewards, even a star next to my name, but I'd just like to make ad hoc donations, not something recurring.
Comment has been collapsed.
Yeah, it's a reasonable work-around...as long as you remember to unsub. ;-)
I guess another way could be for it to allow you to "pre-pay" for X months.
Comment has been collapsed.
You could always wait until the last day of the month, sub quickly to get payment through on the 1st and then unsub immediately after so you minimize the risk of forgetting over several days. But yeah, a donate button would be quite convenient.

Are there any plans to implement a simple "Donate" button or one-time donation option via Patreon? I don't need any rewards, even a star next to my name, but I'd much prefer to send money ad hoc instead of some kind of recurring thing.
Barring that, can I just have an email address to which I can send you $ via PayPal? :D (I know that's a long shot.)
Comment has been collapsed.
Or alternatively, I guess another way could be for it to allow you to "pre-pay" for X months...then preferably auto-cancel...

Great to see this implemented finally, I remember the topic several months ago about what a potential Patreon should include for this site if implemented.

No no no Lootboxes is next, each box contains random number of steamgift points and they can be banked for future use ;)

Hi SG,
I'm excited to be sharing our Patreon with everyone today! If you're unaware of Patreon, it's a platform for users ("Patrons") to support and subscribe to their favorite content creators and services. Our Patreon is arranged into three reward tiers, and it offers a number of fun rewards without giving anyone an unfair advantage towards entering or winning giveaways. The reward tiers are as follows:
Outdoor Cat ($3/mo)
House Cat ($7/mo)
Space Cat ($15/mo)
Our Patreon covers all of the specifics, including further details about the rewards and how they can be redeemed after subscribing.
https://www.patreon.com/steamgifts
You'll also notice the Patreon button added to the account page of our site. This is where you can redeem your rewards as explained above.

A big thanks to everyone, regardless of whether or not you decide to subscribe. It's been a lot of fun working on SteamGifts over the years. I hope to see the community continue to grow, and I'll keep doing my best to release new features and improvements for the years to come. Thanks!
