Now folks, in this case this person is generous. He gives. The thought is there. He earns his money, Spends his money. Gives the games he buys from his money. Silly, I don't know you and you don't know me. My opinion of you is neutral and from this thread and what you said about me well is swaying me the other way. I was in a bad place, I just started my medication and I can now say I'm in a better place. So judge me for me, not my mental illness and what it makes me.
But this isn't about me.
What you are doing here is promoting begging. You are telling people who may be poor, young or lazy. I was all three of those before this place and still kind of am. Yet I have given and quite a lot in that matter and people like me for it.
I'm not saying that giving someone something to give is bad, I've done it in the past and have had it done to me. But man don't publish it on here because people will expect other people to give for them.
Basically, I want to show a conversation that I had a few days ago and the outcome of it... Promote this thread don't hand out the fish. For the love of god you could have done an event about giving games and the participants that gave games would be joined to a group for a giveaway you would have done...

I don't generally write a big comment, only some bump here and there because I always felt that it's a waste of time. However, I've never seen so much negativity in a thread since I joined, so I had to say that even though I don't think your idea is really that great, I commend you for trying to do some good. We'll probably just end up with a bunch of new lvl 1 leechers, but if at least 1 of those use it as a ladder to get even higher, I guess you could consider this event a success. Afterall, the impact of incentives on human behavior cannot be ignored.
At the end of day, it's a lot easier to point at the flaws (like I'm doing xD) of someone else plan than to come up with your own. Anyway, good luck with your event.

I find his behaviour very strange, again, I don't really understand why you would be so desperate to get to level 1 if you aren't intending on entering any giveaways or give anything away. I simply don't get why people get offended by someone doing an event for the ones that haven't had the chance or 'courage' to contribute something in form of a giveaway besides that being no requirement one has to fulfill to "gain" the right use this site anyway and start trashing it like hell. For example, even if it's kinda far-fetched and slightly offensive xD: Running a soup kitchen and offering free food doesn't make the people relying on such services in any way or form beggars nor leeches, to me that sounds just fucking insulting and pretentious. It's just another way of pushing people over the edge and showing them how rewarding gifting things can be - and i don't mean necessarily gaining access to some GA's thousands of other already have~... I mean it's not in an amount where he changes the odds anyhow; begrudging this rather speaks volumes about the people who do so tbh :|... they might wanna consider changing to barter.vg or something like that. As Silly already said and you seconded, even if it's only one that get's convinced of the concept behind SG by letting them being a part of what this site is all about, this event is a success. Get rid of the middle man, if someone is too poor to give for level 1, directly gift to them. Making them earn level 1 before they can potentially win is worse. You don't make the people in the soup kitchen cook the food for a chance at some soup, you give them the soup.

She buys gifts for SG rather than replace the burnt up graphics card in her own PC. Can you say the same? She's my dearest and most generous friend, and I'm proud to call her such. I live in a 2 bedroom house with 3 people. My sister has a child on the way and she is sleeping in the living-room. My mum is a single mother and has been long term unemployed until recently. I don't know my father and probably won't ever. My step dad is an alcoholic and when I was a child I vividly remember spending christmas behind a christmas tree as the police stood an interviewed my mother surrounded by broken furniture and my crying sister in my arms and maybe other moments like that that I'd rather not talk about. I got bullied for what I wore to school. I cried myself to sleep every night and a few weeks ago I finally figured out I'm suffering from depression. I have to help my mum pay rent now and my sister gets no money for her child so we all have to raise her together. Yes, I said on SG because this is the one place I can go to and see online friends and feel like people care about me. Sure my family is supportive and my mum is so strong and brave but I found a community that liked me and it felt good to give games to people and make friends.
Not going to lie. I'm bought myself a lot of games. But last year I bought myself pretty much nothing and just gave games. I'm typing on my first and only PC that I saved up for and built myself.
So yeah, we have all had shit lives. I don't know you and you don't know me. Thats the beauty of this website. We are all different but really we all have similar problems.

At a cursory glance most your games are bundle games, which leads me to believe that you've bought bundles or people have given you bundle games. Of those games, enough of them have 0 hours which means you can idle for 5-10 minutes with the instant card drops to get money to buy a cheap game to giveaway. Commando's is 44p for example a classic game, that's a good game not trash that you could giveaway. You've actually got some damn good games you have 0 hours in, which is common with most steam users, I'd recommend Dawn of War Retribution, its a fantastic game.
The level 10 users was asking for dev keys to promote their game, now I don't agree with it but I don't necessarily think there's much difference between them and this. Some devs obviously believe that its worthwhile donating to promote their game. As much as i dont agree with what they're doing, I can't see a difference between them and this.

I don't think he is deconstructing the level system, as much as I don't agree with it, we have to live within it. If he really wanted to support lower levels or poor people, I think he should directly give to them. Not give to get them out of the stigma of being level 0, that does nothing but perpetuate the problem. If anything he is promoting the idea that level 0 should be stigmatised.
I've said this before, but I think it needs restating, its his game. If he wants to make level 0's suck a dick to get a game, thats his decision to make and the level 0's decision to follow. I can't stop him doing it. It doesn't mean I can't disagree with it, just like the same people disagreed with my nomination events(of which not 1 level 0 was nominated by the level 0 heroes).
There is a lack of transparency within the motives that are being set aside by certain people, for example some people didnt like this event until I agreed with them. Now its a case of "i cant believe the hate", its cool for them to shit on any opinion I have. I tried to discuss why I didn't agree with it, and personal hate and my girlfriend got brought up. Followed by making up something I never said.
If you are not an alt, sorry, if you are low on money, sorry. It doesn't change my opinion that this event is not a good thing in my opinion. I'm open to my opinion being changed, I'm open to discussion. The hypocrisy is real with you. You expect to be able to comment your discontent with something, even going to the point of being abusive and childish about it, but if someone looks at your event sideways, you go ballistic, toss a tantrum, and harass people endlessly for it.

which leads me to believe that you've bought bundles or people have given you bundle games. Of those games, enough of them have 0 hours which means you can idle for 5-10 minutes with the instant card drops to get money to buy a cheap game to giveaway
Well I've stated that I haven't ever bought a bundle, which I guess you still don't believe whatever I say. The games that I do end up playing and receive cards I give back to my friends who gave me the games as a thank you.
I'd recommend Dawn of War Retribution, its a fantastic game.
My computer can't run it unfortunately. Even running Clicker Heroes causes it to lag sometimes, haha.

You're comparing body parts and actual charity to a game website based on gifting. Level 0 has nothing to do with that.
Donating a kidney doesn't somehow level you up for the right to get a heart in the future. If you want to help those that need it, directly gift to them. I don't donate blood to people who have shown a willingness to donate their own blood in the future.
If you can't give anything away physically can't, then don't give anything away. I don't see an issue here. no user is more entitled to anything more than the next. Level 0 or level 10, both deserve to get whatever they can be allowed to enter. On the flip side, everyone deserves life, comparing them is totally incomparable.

Fwiw, I want no part of the flame war thats being attempted to be rekindled. I've said so many times its ok to disagree, just stop mentioning us at every turn. Happy to hear that at least one was "helped". I have no doubt that there are better ways of helping these people achieve lvl 1, but OP's event is a away nonetheless. I know the discussion about a "free lunch" is one of the most controversial of all times, and will always be, but it seems to me that some people here are just using the thread in order to unburden themselves about other situations as well. I may be wrong, but I couldn't read it anymore because of the amount of vitriol being thrown around.

Yep, I agree. I just find it odd there are so many toxic naysayers on a thread where the OP gives and gets nothing in return. To me, that's the true spirit of giving. It's also disturbing for me to find those types of comments so close to a holiday based (at least in some regards) upon giving.
