EDIT: I've now restored all games that I won here, thanks Movac for the tip.

First of all I'm not judging anyone here, I support freedom and you can spend your money on whatever you want.

It all started with this topic made by bobofatt about steam library and quality games.
I've realized that I'm part of the problem, I was buying shit games just to have +1 on my library, like I was some kind of collector. But that's not true, I'm not a collector, I can see that the vast majority of what I bought on these bundle sites are shit games with poor quality, I'm just a compulsive buyer.

Like most people, I've made a next year resolution, mine was that I would only buy games that I really want to play at some point, and lets be realistic, I had 1800 games in my library, if I played 1 each day, it would took me more than 5 years to play them all, without considering that I would probably buy more.

I don't want to support lazy devs and poor quality content, and I thought to myself that I should start removing the games I bought and would surely not play. So I searched a method to remove games from my library and found out it's really simple:

Go into your library with the standard view mode(Detail View), click on the game you want to remove and look at the right side of the screen, you'll see links, click on the Support link, now there's an option to remove that game permanently. You can remove even games you activated with a cd-key.

I went and looked at my games one by one and removed 1150 games from my library, it took me 7 hours and I probably would remove more if I looked a second time.

Just a few examples, it would take a long time to screenshot all, the list is huge.

This leads to the main point of this topic. I did that clean up in a rush and forgot about all the giveaways that I won and really didn't like or play the game, and I would like to apologize to the giveaway creators. I'm indeed deeply sorry that I entered your giveaway without the intent to play the game. But I did activate them and abide by the steamgifts rule.

I'm here to discuss my situation with the community, there's currently no rules about removing games, I won these giveaways, I activated them and now I removed them, I know this is not okay, but this situation is new to me, when I registered to this site, steam didn't even let you remove games from your library.

So I would like a mod or even CG to step in and shed some light on this situation.

Trivia:

Steam didn't decreased my levels, just increased the Xp for the next level..

I'm still eligible for booster packs of the games I removed, kinda silly.

Games that I removed are still featured on my profile.

Well, you could always still get a new copy of the game, give it to the giveaway creator and ask for a reroll.

I knew someone would say that, but that's kinda unrealistic, for example, I won Tryst 3 years ago.

Maybe, but it really is the only option you have. (Or you'll just have to live with being seen as a rule breaker from now on...)

It would also accomplish the exact opposite of your point. You'd be supporting developers you don't like twice, once for the original purchase that was gifted to you, and a second time now.

As you have figured out, just restore them from your library and you should be OK.

Already did that, I guess steamgifts wise my problem is solved, but it kinda sucks to have them stuck there on my library. I guess I'll see them as a lesson.

If you removed games won here, it will be seen as unactivated wins. It's best to avoid removing any won games from your library, but since you already did, all you can do is some damage control. I think I saw someone mention that it is possible to get games back you removed, but I'm not entirely sure if that's true or how it's done.

Or you could do what Elunes said. If the GA creator doesn't want to reroll, you can add the game to your library again.

Interesting question. I am planning to get rid of about 50 or 60 games for similar reasons, although there's only one of my SG wins that would be on the list (and that was a mass giveaway). If somebody reports you for unactivated wins, does SG even have a record that you ever activated a win?

Idk, that's what i'm trying to show here.

It's apparently very easy to restore games you removed, so you could ask support to do that with the games you won.

Can't you still undelete your wins?
IIRC it's not actually "permanent", and you can still add them back to your account without re-purchasing.

Elunes' suggestion is even better, if you want to give someone else a chance at a game they might want.

Hey Tzaar, do you know how to add the games back to your library after deleting them?

Thanks for sharing. I have found that but that option is not available for my friend. I guess there is some time limit for you to recover. :/

Yeah there may be some time limit. No idea how long it might be, though.
Never deleted any games myself (never saw the need with the option to hide them).

Thanks, managed to restore my last win, I'll see if I can do that for all of them.

You could have just hidden them, what you did might make you start reporting unactivated wins. Also it's a bit of a dick move, since someone gave you those games...
And, some of the ones you removed are not that bad.

Bots got all of the keys.

Next time you can try replacing a character in them so they are not taken instantly.

Just keep in mind you can now reenter for/reactivate those games.. so, as opposed to having hidden them, now you'll have to make sure not to accidentally do that. Hope you marked them all as Not Interested..

Steam did allow it, you just had to manually contact support (and they couldn't be undeleted). Games have to be activated on your account, so there is in fact a rule about that. As long as you can get GA creator approval, you can delete any giveaway you want. Otherwise it's better to just hide the games in your library, you won't see them that way either.
