Well I personally haven't played GO yet since the only time I win it, it ends up being a "fake" giveaway but from what I've seen and heard about it it seems to be fairly similar to CS Source, if you've played that one. Which is a game I absolutely adore. Almost 1000 hours of playtime even though before this year none of my PCs really worked right should be indication enough that I would recommend it.
As for the community, again only judging by Source, which I would guess is about the same as in GO, it's actually gotten a lot worse than it used to be. There are still cool and fun people to be found but a large portion of the community has turned into assholes who think they are oh so pro and everyone who's better than them is a cheater and everyone who's not as good as them is a noob and should better uninstall the game. But that seems to be a trend a lot of online games are moving towards lately. But if you find the right people it still is a blast. Besides, in modes like Gun Game and minigame maps (the latter is not available in GO as of yet) people at least don't really care if you're a noob or not because it's more a deathmatch, every man for himself, kinda deal and being bad at the game doesn't "ruin the game" for anybody.

As for me wanting the game: Hell yeah I do. I would love to celebrate my 1000th hour of CSS by starting to play GO and see for myself if it's any good. Which a lot of people say it isn't but yeah... people did the same when CSS was new and that became my most played online game ever, by far.
