But I remember some time this year when steam gave out games even though I believe most are crap games.

They gave out perhaps 100 games total to tens of thousands of users. So, unless you won the lottery, you didn't get any free games, basically.
There was also a "minigame" that didn't affect your odds of winning at all, and which people used scripts to automatically play.
Nothing interesting happened.

They gave some games while people watched the Game Awards stream. Good games but only few copies.

So what happened? I heard Steam gave out games.
