so recently ive gone on a man hunt to find people breaking rules, and just in the last hour ive found and reported like 5 people who have been winning games and not activating their games or retrading them

the last one i found really pee'd me off....
he has won almost 25 games, and people are still sending him his wins even though about 6 or 7 of his giveaways have not been activated on his steam account!!!!!!!!!!!!@!@!@!!!

seriously? would you say he deserves his wins? does anyone deserve their wins when they break the rules?????

please for the love of all the greek gods.... start inspecting your winners before you send them free games!

im begging every one of you to just take 1 minute out of your time to make sure the person getting your game absolutely deserves it!

i think ill spend most of my day inspecting every user i can find on this site..... it just breaks my heart to think someone lost a giveaway that deserved it more then the person who won it that might not even activate some of their wins.......

EDIT im actually proud to see many of you have checked your winners just for funzies and found rule breakers, thats great news and im at least happy to see some light is shining on the issue ^__^

EDIT2 lots of you have found rule breakers in your very own giveaways, thats rather saddening but im glad they were found... this is why we cant have nice things, people who dont follow rules at least some riffraff is getting caught lol

EDIT3 why cant cg just make it so after you win a game, if it doesnt appear in your sync list within a week when you get auto synced.... that the system bans you instantly? this would solve this sites problem of pirating wins and not activating them v__v cant be that hard to make it so that your wins must match your sync...

I used to check all winners before sending them gifts, but then I had dozen of giveaways ending in the same time so I just stopped checking anything. Maybe I should start again... Anyway, nice of you to spend your time trying to improve our little community.

Since inspecting is your hobby, check out the winners on le grande Fortix giveaway and find out how many people didn't activate it or even worse, re-gave-it-away here on SG. Have fun!

I check all my winners, and then check them again to make sure they activate the game.

I personally don't care if the winners of my giveaways deserved the games or not, or even if he activated them. Just doesn't seem to bother me.

I always delete the users I sent the gift to, honestly don't care if they activate it or not.

Well, that would also be a bit awkward, to go and wait for them to activate it. The thing you can check though, is whether their previous wins are activated. I usually pick some of the more wanted games from the won list and check them (as it can be a hassle checking 25 games per user if you have 5 giveaways ended).

Tried to check once, one person still had a game in their inventory but a month or two later they did activate it. It's a bit of a chore to snoop on every single winner, though...

I hate it when people don't activate their wins... All of my wins are activated, my computer can't handle some of them, though. But, I'm getting a new PC soon, so I will be able to enjoy them :3

I always check the winner's profile before and after sending the game. But sometimes they have the profile set as private, so I can't confirm anything...

It seems like this should be a feature built in to SG. It already syncs your account every once in a while; on the first sync after the 7 day grace period, if your account doesn't show the game (which you marked received) as activated, auto-suspend. Would save everyone a lot of work.

I would imagine all the extra queries would cripple the database as we already have occasional problems, although a lot less frequent than before!

Huwhat? There's no way that the miniscule number of queries would cripple the database (well, I shouldn't say NO way, but it would have to be very poorly implemented!).

When someone marks a giveaway as received, add it to a list attached to their account. No crippling queries here. (Really, it's already being added to their account as Won, just flag that as NEW as well, hardly any extra work at all!)

The next time their account syncs, look at the list. Are the games they won now in their account? No crippling queries here either. The list is very likely small (or non-existent), and the list of games in an account is likewise likely to be small (small in computational terms, anyway).

It should work fine.

It's even easier (programmatically) to just check all wins against the account every time it syncs, but that's more work (computationally). It's a trade-off.

I was more or less going off of the fact that we already have occasional problems and anything extra wouldn't help.

I certainly wouldn't rule out the chance of it being implemented poorly either as your idea is something that should have been here since the start.

Problem is some games don't show in the library. Maybe just auto-sending a support ticket would work.

I wouldn't want support to be flooded with auto-tickets for all rulebreakers on SG. I'm against more work for mods in general.

You're right that some games don't show up in the library (I'm experiencing this right now with Game of Dwarves), but that's a rare thing.

At most, I would say that the first time a game doesn't show up, alert the mods to check. If it's one of the rare games that doesn't show up properly, flag it so the system ignores it. If not, let the system auto-suspend violators.

I would actually prefer it to auto-suspend first, and allow support to flag it once people report it. I'm not sure which would be less work for the mods though; responding to every new game, or responding to everyone reporting the rare new game that doesn't get listed properly.

Either way, the auto-suspend system would save everyone at least some work. Gifters wouldn't have to check winners, and mods wouldn't have to respond to these types of reports anymore, since it would be automated.

Totally agree. As long as games which don't show are flagged so that they don't require a check, there shouldn't be an issue. I can't believe this change would represent any significant extra overhead on the database.

After all, the database is already checked regularly to see whether a user can enter a giveaway, so that Steamgifts can decide whether to display the "Exists in your account" or "clicky here, comrade" button. Would it really be that big a deal to check that any new games marked as "won" since the last sync were present on the user's account?

The biggest potential show-stopper would be actually programming this, which would, no doubt, be fairly time consuming. That and the mods fielding an initial wave of aggrieved users whining about their newly acquired suspensions.

Whining about a deserved suspension should be a suspendable offense. Wait, that might result in a feedback loop...

CG should open-source SG. I can't say how difficult it would be to implement this without knowing how things are being done right now.

I totally agree. An extra table for wins marked and awaiting verification would probably do the trick. Game could be added there when you mark it as received, and it would be enough to compare the lists on account sync. Yeah this means some extra queries, but from the global point of view the number of queries wouldn't rise so much - suspended users don't generate traffic.

Sure, I alwas check winners of my giveaways because I feel that's the way things are meant to be done. Anyway doing that doesn't always guarantee the winner actually deserves the game...

If you have something to report, a giveaway or a user, create a support ticket in the support section. We can't access user reports.

When we go to support section, there's a note in red letters that says: "Reporting Users: If you're reporting a user, please do not use support. Instead, click the Report User button which is located on their profile."

It's there because the way it's planned is to have support members checking stuff that's related support, and to have support members that'll go through user reports. It was planned to have separate sections for separate stuff so that they wouldn't mix with each other.

User reports are supposed to be seen in support, but we don't have the manpower to go through them, and cg says that they're too much for us to handle at this point. So until we're able to see them, make support tickets for reports.

I activate the games I won. But if i dont install them does that make a difference, because honestly I dont think it does. I am currently running a multiple computer situation and I am only just sometimes able to get online because of shit situations. But I guess that also applies to anyone else here. If you are able to use the internet to enter the giveaway you should also be able to use the internet to activate the giveaway.
But also being honest, for the few giveaways I have made I have never checked the winners profile to see if they activated the game. I guess it is just an ingrained lazyness that I will need to Change.

Comment has been collapsed.

Well if you activate the game it shows you have intention of playing it, even if it's not in the immediate future. Whereas, someone not activating a game could be holding the game for trading/selling/re-gifting. Of course it could be an honest mistake but you're supposed to activate any game you win within 7 days anyway.
