I had the same mouse as you, came with my MX5000 keyboard. When I got it, I tossed my mousepad because I didn't need it.
Now I pretty much have to use a pad because I wore the feet off the mouse and the plastic/charging contacts scratched up the top surface of my desk allowing moisture to get in and "bubble up" the particle board.
