as others have said. Steam Trades is a good place to start and you might wanna look up the various forums aswell.

Trade, Money or Giveaways and the Official Survey. GamersBook did a lot of Dota 2 giveaways ( i won mine from there ). Also playdota has a forum thread for Dota 2 keys ( randomly selected comments recieve PM with a key. ). Good Luck with finding a key for your friend.

Trade for it at steamtrades. It's ~6-8$ worth. Make sure, that you get a gift, because there are a lot of region locked keys out there.

Most people will trade a copy for 3 or 4 DOTA keys, or sometimes even two. Keys are 2.50 each, so...

2. Install free version and go in to game ( you can only watch, not play ) then turn off game, unistall and wait couple weeks for invote from steam. That sec. part is my verison and i get a email that dota2 is now sitting on my library :P
