I played the first game. It's a mashup between a third person RPG and an RTS. There are some levels where you only control your heroes and you play it like a classic isometric RPG (as in auto attack and such). Then you have the RTS levels where you resource gather/build units. Unfortunately, the first game didn't handle either aspect very well. They tried to combine those two genres, but failed in my opinion. The RPG levels are very bland and the maps are way too big. Later on in the game, you have to run across the entire map to reach another portal, which can take up to ten minutes.
