Have you experienced this?
Well, technically it's mostly not false advertising. Look at R6: Siege. they had the gameplay trailer with the team being really coordinated and stuff. It COULD happen, but it most likely won't. It's scripted, but possible.
CGI trailers are supposed to represent the game, not show what it'll be like.

I had something like this happen recently--but I didn't buy the game. I was really stoked for the release of Xcom II, and the cinematic trailers looked amazing. But the player reactions and reviews were a lot less impressive than I'd hoped. (It wasn't Pong, but it also wasn't the great, improved thing I thought I'd be getting.) I ended up buying a bunch of indie games instead.
So in general, if I'm going to spend much on something, I read up on it first to avoid the nasty surprises.

This is why I wait for a gameplay trailer. I've been burned before too. I learned my lesson early.

Avoiding trailers unless they have gameplay video. Fast-forward to that part and get a glimpse. Otherwise I skip the game altogether because if they can't be bothered to make a proper actual gameplay video why should I bother with their game..

True that. I'd have watched the heck out of whatever movie those 'The Secret World' cinematic trailers came from. Remember those?

I don't actually watch trailers anymore for that reason. I go directly to gameplay screenshots/footage. It's not that I mind bad graphics or anything, but if you advertise something, fucking stick to it, don't create false expectatives.
If your game is good, being honest and upfront is the best way. If it's not, don't try to scam me.

Ever see those ads for those "kingdom ruling" games with the sexy ladies and needing to be 18+ to play? You almost never see a female again once you're past the tutorial. XD I would know, I played those kingdom games before those ads ever started, then one day i see an ad for a game i already played and was like where the hell were all those half naked chicks at when I played?? XD

Indeed, if your game's selling point is naked women. It better have fucking tons of naked women on it, if not I'll be angry.

I don't see the problem. Corporations are gonna corporate, bro.

Sure, you're a 100% right, I haven't bought a triple a title for full price for years, they are just not worth their price tag IMO.
However, expecting companies to leave their shitty bussiness pratices because of some moral code is pretty naïve, innit?

Yeah, I've had that in the past. Taught me that Trailers always lie. (Same goes for movies too).
Well, except for the very first original Carmageddon trailer. That explains exactly what you get in the game.

Last game i got on a Hype train , and even piloted it , was Woolfe , the red hood diaries ...
Never again .
That game was such a disappointment , i've never been so mad @ myself for jumping on the bandwagon for something .
W8 for the stuff to release , give it a week to see if its actually working , and only then will i consider hyping for a game .

First I believed the hype around Project Cars, big mistake. Then I believed the hype around Fallout 4, also way too much although the game wasn't that bad. It has taught me to look critically at something before considering to buy it.

Welcome to the wonderful world of advertising!
Seriously, it isn't just computer games that do this. I've been experiencing this kind of disappointment for as long as I've been self-aware. (This food isn't as wonderful as you said, Mom!). The first time I experienced this with a computer game was in 1978. Things haven't changed since then.
If you want to avoid disappointment, learn to separate the hype from the actual product. Know what you are really getting before you buy.

Sometimes I like looking through Steam to see if I can find any cool games to add to my wishlist. It gets really annoying when I simply want to look at what type of game I'm looking at only to see story trailers. Trailers without gameplay annoy me.
When Bloodborne was shown at E3, I was annoyed because I had zero clue what the game was (I wasn't too aware of From Software as a development team). When I later saw actual gameplay and noticed it looked like a fun game based on the Dark Souls, series, I was so confused why they didn't just show the freaking game.
InMomentum has a trailer that shows actual gameplay, and I must say the game totally disappointed me. I think it worked because the gameplay is shown in small snippets, One of the major elements of parkour in this game is the wall jump which is only ever shown in short or slowed down and in a dynamic view (rather than the view of the player which is first or third person). The only thing that's ever clearly shown in a player's view is jumping. I find the wall-jumping quite awkward and kind of clunky.
It's always good to go check out raw game footage to make sure you know what your getting into. Even trailers that are all done using the game itself can be a bit misleading. In depth reviews are always nice too. I tend to like playing older games, so it's much easier to find info on the game and gameplay (and no need to worry about hype).

I don't even bother watching game trailers anymore. I only watch gameplay footage done by people outside the company. If there is none available then not worth my money and time at that moment and I will come back to investigate it again later.

You see an awesome trailer for a game, you see this breath-taking, amazing concept or cover art. You get Pong and wonder what the heck just happened.
Not that Pong is a bad game, but really? This exact situation hasn't happened to me but the basic feeling is the same. So many games put so much work into making amazing trailers/cut-scenes/art work and then the game is nothing like it at all. It frustrates me when I'd rather look at a still image or watch a 1 minutes video rather then play the game itself.
Again, this isn't to say the game is bad, many are quite fun, the misleading part is just frustrating and off-putting.
If you answer yes to the poll, what was the game?
