Haven't you ever thought that as humanity we don't explore oceans enough? I think that there's a lot of stuff that we haven't found there yet. I've recently watched a documentary where they used remotely-controlled submarine to capture some footage of creatures living there. You can google deep ocean/sea life to find some images of creatures that I'd never have though even existed.

Citing wikipedia, humans have explored less than 2% of the ocean floor, and dozens of new species of deep sea creatures are discovered with every dive..

Just remember, there's probably some creepy stuff there too..

As a scuba diver, the deep ocean is one of the most attractive places on the planet for me :)

The problem with exploring it is it is easier to leave the planet than it is to go deeper. The pressure is so hard to manage and opposed to leaving gravity. In my opinion they so have a super active underwater NASA

I grew up on an island.. being by the water is life! Being deep in the water... well, scares me :( Think it's pretty awesome though. I often used to think how neat it'd be to be around to walk around on the ocean floor. Also, happy name day <3

When I was taking an Oceanography class, my teacher told us that the budget for ocean research is nowhere near what it is for space research/NASA. Feels like it should be the other way around.

Why research space if we don't even know or understand our planet :P

Yeah, exactly that. There's still so much undiscovered/unknown things about the oceans.

Oh, definitely, one of the reasons why I started studying marine biology in the first place. :)
The deep sea is a fascinating environment. I mean, besides hydrothermal vents, the only energy input is from marine snow and the occasional whale carcass.

Siphonophores scare the hell out of me (though they're fascinating).
