Yes technically they are exactly the same game.
But they have a diffrent appid on Steam. The one I bought is
33250 (https://steamdb.info/app/33250/) while the only
one I can create a giveaway for is 33210 (https://steamdb.info/app/33210/)
so it will probably count as game not received/not activated, right?

Steamdb redirects to same store page. You should verify it with support before creating giveaway.

I would just check http://www.steamgifts.com/archive for old giveaways of the same version (without DLC) and check the winner on sgtools. If they are okay then you're probably okay. sgtools has whitelisted a lot of games with similar situations (like Battle vs Chess, Painkiller: Black Edition, etc).

It is in the same situation for 211070 and 211050, which already be giveaway for hundreds copies.
The only possible risk is the winner may not pass sgtool check after win this one. (and you may have to check the winner if he already won 33250.)
However, I think this game worth for pay a support ticket.
At least I will enter for such a little risk. XD

SG seems to only reference the North American copies of games where there aren't substantial regional differences in the versions.
Go ahead and post the the giveaway, then put in a "Change Giveaway Game" ticket [which can be used for changing a giveaway to any 'sufficiently similar game version'].
This'll let you put your giveaway up right away, but also cover you on any confusions on SG's end [allowing staff to easily update your giveaway to a different version if needed].
For the long-term consideration, ask Kynys for the exception, as recommended above. :)

I'm saying that SG doesn't really consider there to be fundamental differences between regional copies [whatever the mechanical basis supporting that outlook], and that the 'Change Giveaway Game' is just an easy way of covering your ass if you suspect there ought be a different version of the game posted, but want to get your giveaway up right away [as the OP stated they did].
Put another way, staff likes it if you contact them through the associated topic, in case they do have to do something, since otherwise you'd have to create an entirely new ticket under the appropriate label before they can.
So if she's contacting them about it anyway, this is a better approach than just a general ticket about it.

Okay, I did as you suggested ... but now I'm stuck with selecting the replacement game ... because there is no "Anno 1404" that I could select. Guess I'll just have to enter a general support ticket after all. Or I could create a ticket asking for them to add "Anno 1404" and mention that the giveaway is already running. Somehow I have the impression, it would have been better to ask support first.

Okay, I'll just file my ticket again asking for them to add "Anno 1404" to the list so we can make giveaways for it.
Meanwhile I keep this running and don't stress as you said :-)
I also noticed you don't have it yet .... so I took the liberty to add you to whitelist, in case you're interested

The question that remains is what will sgtools say for the winner?
Well and another question actually: Does an Anno 1404 key even activate for people outside of Germany/EU?
If so, I guess they would actually receive Dawn of Discovery then?
PS: I'm not whitelisted? :(

Not sure if there are any keys for that game. All The official resellers usually have only Uplay keys.
The only way to buy it for Steam is probably to buy it through steam, which means you get a gift and not key.
This one is a gift too, so thanks for the confirmation, that gifts work.

I did a Anno 1404 GA 7 months ago (http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/1uYfA/dawn-of-discovery-gold). I used the US title after i got the ok from support. You won't have any problem.

I can confirm Anno 1404 non region locked flagged steam gifts can be activated outside their sold regions. I live in the U.S. and back when Ubi never put Dawn of Discovery on sal 75% when they did Anno I traded to get a copy of Anno 1404 Gold , activated it and played it without issue. They only purchase locked it for ROW regions not activation locked. Same goes with Dawn of Discovery, any region that cannot purchase Dawn of Discovery from the steam store can activate it. I have seen quite a few game collectors with both Dawn of Discovery and Anno1404 gold in their libraries.
This was all before the EU 1 EU 2 being put together mind you so I am not sure if it has changed because of the region merger or not.

How about http://store.steampowered.com/app/33250/ ? That's the one that works for me.

Actually, I would enjoy Anno 2070 too, if it wasn't for Uplay and that the game enforces being online
even in singleplayer. I bought it when I was still pretty new on Steam and didn't know about Uplay at all.
Back then it wasn't even mentioned on Steam's store page that it requires Uplay. Imagine my surprise
when I got a key for a another website instead of my game after buying it from Steam. Well, what's
worse, that Uplay client didn't even run out of the box, and when I finally got ti running, it first wanted
me to add friends (like some freggin social network) ... when I only wanted to play my game. Ever since
I try to stay away from Uplay. People complain about Origin as well, but at least with EA is decent enough
that everything they sell on Steam you can run through Steam without having to install Origin.

I think I played Anno 1404 + Venice for over 1000 hours back in the day. It was one of those games that has a little notification every couple of hours that you maybe should drink a cup of coffee or even turn off the computer for a little while... so many sleepless nights :D This thread almost made me re-buy it yesterday with the current Ubisoft sales but I think I'll wait and see if the Gold edition gets another 75% discount this summer. I need my spies and those bigass Venetian ships :D

You could buy the Gold edition on Games Republic or DLGamer for €3,75 even now, the problem's just
it's Uplay keys. Even though there's a big chance, that it's DRM-free due to the latest patch on Uplay too,
meaning that you'd need Uplay only for the download, I can't confirm that, while I can confirm that it's
DRM-free on Steam now. So yes, if you want to the full game, it's probably wise to wait for the summer
sale.

Okay, seen Anno 1404 on weekend sale and made a quick decision to share it here.
Now I got one gift copy, only to find out that it's not possible to create a giveaway for it.
Now, I know the reason for this is because it's called "Dawn of Discovery" for Americans.
Question's, can I create a giveawy for "Dawn of Discovery" with my Anno 1404 Steamgift
or would that lead into trouble?
