Would you be happy to receive an adult coloring book?
Do you have a board game store nearby? They should be able to help you picking a game that's easy to play and not very expensive, and that works well with adults. There's actually quite a big market for games like that. You might be able to find Carcassonne for less than $20 (here it costs just over $20, but things tend to be very expensive where I live).

It is considered a niche hobby, but in my experience most people enjoy games like Carcassonne, Settlers, Caylus and Evolution, the kind of games that are easy to pick up and play but offer a good amount of depth. You just need to convince them that playing them is very different from playing Monopoly.

I got my mom a coloring book and also I own one for myself.... it's not "the coolest thing on earth" but it helps me to calm down after a hard day/week

I've also gifted adult coloring books. Idk why they're a thing too. haha.

It used to be Mandala coloring a decade or so ago, now its all kinds of coloring. It keeps coming back and people thinks its new and hip :P My girlfriend wanted a coloring book, a little while later as I was about to buy her one she suddenly said "Ain't nobody got time for that", so I'm glad I didn't :D
No food? Darn!
A wooden 3D puzzle, a mug (probably too late for a custom one), a funny USB stick, bulbs (no, not light, spring flowers for planting)....uhhhhh....

A decade or so ago I was too young to be worrying about Christmas gifts :P
Sorry to say m3rc, but I don't think any of those you listed are what I'm looking for. I myself am tired from receiving mugs for various occasions... Thanks for the suggestions though!

Oh no, not what you're thinking at all! D:

Well, it is not a gift exchange, but i felt like gifting some stuff to my colleagues this year (more than the yearly chocolate box :)).
For my female colleagues, i offered some little useless cute things to decorate their desk at the office :D
For one male colleague, i offered a bottle of wine.
And for another male colleague, i plan to offer a game on Steam.
They are all like 40-45 years old.
To be honest, i didn't know about the adult coloring book thing :)
I would have said some good chocolate, but you don't want any food.
So i guess some little decoration things.
It depends on the person personality though.

Will it be one of those things people can pass up, if they want to try for another gift?
Magic 8 ball or a chia zombie hand... :)
Also Star Wars stuff is very popular right now. The Star Wars Wookie Chewbacca Slippers are cool, but it would be hard to guess the size, especially if the gift can't be re-exchanged at the party. You'd have to add a gift receipt.

Yeah, my husbands work did it where they could swap out the gift. He said it was a lot of fun. No one's feelings got hurt because everyone ended up with a gift, except one year he ended up bringing home his own gift. It was an obnoxious talking alarm clock, which we ended up torturing our son with since he always has a hard time getting out of bed. :)

Portable power bank is the most practical given that battery for mobile devices does not last long and even if a person has it, a spare will be great if you forgot to charge one. Gift cards/voucher are great too. I am not sure about adult colouring book or whatever it is and if given 1, I will just put it in my bookshelf and let it collect dust.

i doubt you will find it in store, maybe online
but the fun part is making it http://natashaskitchen.com/2012/02/19/angelinas-easy-bread-kvas-recipe/
for the gift i reccomend do it yourself kit if you are able to find it (you just add water, wait, and drink)

Currently I am considering an adult coloring book, since that seems to be the thing these days... Never understood its popularity though.
Wait what? You serious? Σ(゜ロ゜;)
Hmm how about a ring?! Sorry I'm joking xD
I know that you're from Singapore and it's a tropical country..
Maybe a scarf? Because it's kinda christmas-likepoi
Or a cute animal hat (see below pic)
Or just something cute like panda doll, snowman doll, white-bear doll
I mean it doesn't matter how old are they, cute things are cuteeeeee! xD
The last resort is to bring them to TARDIS and give them a nice tour ヾ(≧∇≦*)ゝ
If you ask what I want... I would prefer the raw material, yeah "お金" xD

Maybe practical items like towel, doormat, or department store gift voucher

I think when it's a gift exchange like this, "practical" is more important than "personal" so a gift card or something from this list perhaps.

EDIT: Some of you misunderstood, this gift exchange is random. i.e. I'm getting a single gift. I don't know who will receive my gift, and likewise don't know who will be gifting me something. Another idea: portable charger / board game?
Hello SG! I need some opinions on a gift for Christmas gift exchange at my workplace. The budget is between $15-20 in my local currency, which is probably about USD10-15. There are people of all ages working there, from 17/18 to 60-odd, a good mix of locals and foreigners. I want to give something nice, not something that the recipient will throw away or never touch again. Restrictions: no foodstuff allowed.
Currently I am considering an adult coloring book, since that seems to be the thing these days... Never understood its popularity though. What do you think? Any better ideas? I will probably be getting it on Tuesday, when I'm free.
TL;DR? Christmas gift idea, tyvm.
Here, I know you all want a giveaway: Level 1+
