Like for example generically typing "thank you" on every entry they make. I know when you click on the profile of a commenter it will show the NUMBER of comments they have left, but that doesn't appear to be clickable to see a mass list of what those comments are.

I didn't know about that, but you would only need a single instance of overpriced Hede shovelware to pass that threshold, so that could explain another reason why these keys are being inflated in value - not just to increase XP by donating them here, but to actually add them to accounts as value anchors.

Correction, it's against Steamgifts rules, NOT Steam's rules. Valve has no regulations in relation to Steamgifts.

@CG & Support: Here is a list of SG accounts that are part of this group, so it should be easy to ban them all: https://www.steamgifts.com/group/v4bLx/autojoin/users

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

That's a bit overkill IMO. Not everyone in this group is using auto joiners. Three categories:

  • People who joined the group, but never used an AJ.
  • People who tried the AJ once or for a short time, but remained in the group. (Still against the rules, so maybe a short suspension considering that punishments on SG are applied retro-actively for other things, too.)
  • People who use AJ all the time, in worst case on multiple accounts as has been mentioned above.

You don't join this group by accident, but with ill intentions, so I advise to ban them all. It's not what is going to happen, tho.

I checked the users and to my surprise even found some from my Whitelist. Well, now my WL has shrunk a little bit.

What about people who join any SG related group, as this increases the chance of winning without breaking rules?

Comment has been collapsed.

This whole question is kinda mute because if you confronted anybody from that group they'd just tell you they wouldn't even dream about using the autojoin feature - not in a million years. They just have that extension installed for infinite scroll 😅

And I suppose in 1 out of 10.000 cases it would even actually be true.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

The mods know the group since years.

To be only in the group isn't enough for them for a suspension, perma suspension or a ban.

And yes, server sided checks for the accounts of this users would show, very easily, if they autojoin and in "we aren't sure" cases it should give a suspension too.

But we all know that nothing will happen because it would mean some work for cg....

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

If you scroll trough the List you can already see lots of them are suspended. I imagine SG Staff is already keeping watch on Members but wait for actual suspicious Behavior as straight banning for being a Group Member would indeed be overkill.

I don't like the idea of bots snatching my keys, would rather gift them to verified people. Earning XP here isn't attractive unless I know Hede-spammers aren't easily leveling up to get access to the pool.

Doesn't make any sense someone create a Steam account, put $100 in CV value there in games, create an account here, enter in a lot of giveaways for a chance to win some bundled game just to resell that key and be banned here for not activating the key on its own account.

If you want to share a game, just share it. Is highly doubt that is will go to some bot reseller account :)

they don't put 100 CV in value - they pay 50 cents for a key from Hede who then cranks up the value to 200 dollars

I am sure you aren't aware that 40% of the level 0 and 1 accounts have infractions for unactivated wins.
And that it give thousands of accounts that use autojoiners.

So you should rethink your "highly doubt" sentence.

One thing to consider with this is even verified people don't always play the games. I have a number of giveaways that are for popular, critically acclaimed games, where I know the winners are not bots, but who have not even launched the game since winning.
If you want to give, just give, if not, then don't. At the end of the day it's a gift, and it's the winners choice to do with it as they please when they win. While yes, it is sad when a game you've enjoyed, and given away as such to let someone else experience it isn't played, it isn't in your control to force the winner to play it.

If you want, have a look at the 'Playing Appreciated' group, they have a rule that the winners must play the game they have won within a month. That means you have a much higher chance of the giveaway winner actually playing the game, otherwise they risk being banned from the group.

basically a minimum # need to enter the draw which means an even higher number need access to it in case they're AFK

guessing w/ smaller groups you want the entry period to be longer (like a month) to give everyone a chance to enter

Do you know how these display, like if they get grouped in w/ the normal open entries on the homepage which are organized by what will expire soonest?

What you can do is create a discussion and post your giveaways as "Invite Only" and add some extra words in the link. That way, people will have to manually remove the extra "botprotection".

For example: https://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/BOTPROTECTION5tWZX/oddworld-abes-oddysee

Welcome to SG and don't mind the pissy people above 👍

Those two restrictions (invite only / group) are independent. You can do an invite only without group requirement, you can do invite only with group(s) requirement or you can do directly a group giveaway.

Permalink

Comment has been collapsed.

One shouldn't be able to see people's comments on GAs since I'd say many comments are semi-private. People tend to talk a little more in there with friends on whitelist or private GAs.

Well, if you create 10+ public low level giveaways, it is clear from that who the bots are. Instead of saying "thanks for all the GAs" they will put the same thing in every single one they enter. I don't mind comments, I just don't want to be bombarded 10 times by the same idiot using a bot, and x5 idiots means 50 notifications that I didn't want.

Nothing to worry about. You are aware of the description when you send that.
Some people here sadly use autojoiners which has an option to add in custom messages when they join a Giveaway. Thats how they add in the 'thank you'. So some hosters are irritated by these pointless messages.

Besides, most if not all the Hosters apreciate a 'Thank you' after you have won something from them. Dont overthink your message to not sound like a bot :)

I meant for thanking them for making the giveaway not winning the giveaway. Winning the giveaway is usually fine to thank them but I have even seen some where thanks for winning is not required.
