Less than $10,000 to go... [Update]

Starbound is almost to One Million Dollars!

The devs said that they didn't even think that they would get $50,000 in pre-orders, and they thought that $3,000 for the first day would be good.

I know I'm really looking forward to it. How about you?

I think the bigger statement is that graphics aren't that much of a concern as long as the gameplay is solid. Which is exactly what Starbound is promising (albeit with upgraded graphical assets and lighting when compared to Terraria).

The usual responses I see to 8-bit games. There are apparently a huge number of people who are crazy about this style. Games with okay 3D would get comments about it being somewhat primitive, but games with pixelated 2D would get "amazing 8-bit graphics".

I don't understand that myself. But I know I can be interested in an 8-bit game for its gameplay without caring for the 8-bit style. So to say that everyone who pre-ordered the game is showing demand for 8-bit games is incorrect.

(Not that I'd pre-order, so probably not a good example)

I imagine that not everyone who pre-ordered the game did it because of its graphical style, but my guess is that it's a significant factor in the sales. Of course the nature of the game is another significant factor in the sales.

The assumption, IMO, is that because the dev doesnt focus on graphics at all, they reinvested time/money into gameplay, setting, story, mechanics and w/e other bits of the game the consumer craves that day. This doesnt happen much, but to each their own.

I never played Terraria so I'm still trying to figure out whether to pre-order or not. It seems interesting enough, and I'd certainly want to support them just because but I'm not sure if I want to bet my money on something I'm not sure I will even like. I wonder if there will be more stretch goals.
