If you want to be a cheapskate then you can pay less, same as you can pay more then $40. Enter the number you want in the box on the right of the slider, instead using it.

Anyone know if this is expected to be substantially better than Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga, which apparently also includes Divinity II: Ego Draconis and Divinity II: Flames of Vengeance?

It is basically DKS, but with tons of goodies like concept art and the "Developers Mode" (cheat console)

Guy from Larian told me that Divinity II: The Dragon Knight Saga will be upgraded to Developers Cut late October for free. Plus it will have multilingual support. Включая русский язык.

Don't know about Ego Draconis.

That's helpful since I prefer to keep my games on Steam if possible. Based on the descriptions, Dragon Knight Saga includes the same core games -- Ego Draconis and Flames of Vengeance. So Director's Cut, which consolidates those same two games, would appear to be an upgrade on Dragon Knight Saga.
